We're known for scratch-made schnitzel, german food, a 22-foot bar salvaged from Carmine's in New York City, ten German drafts, a rotating selection of 70–80 beers, and a 150-seat biergarten that fills up all summer long. Trivia on Wednesdays, live music on Fridays, and Oktoberfest is our Super Bowl with German bands on Sundays. We also host seasonal vendor markets, charity events, and multiple other events throughout the year.\nWe're a small team that works shoulder to shoulder. Our best people stay for years.\nThe Role\nWe're hiring a cross-trained Server/Bartender — someone who can run a section on a busy Friday night and step behind the bar on a Sunday morning or when needed. You'll be the face of the restaurant for guests who may be trying German food and beer for the first time, and for regulars who have been coming here for decades.\nNo German experience required. We'll teach you the beer, the food, and how to pronounce it. What we can't teach is showing up on time and caring about the guest in front of you.\nWhat You'll Do\nOn the floor\nGreet and serve guests in the dining room, bar, and biergarten with genuine hospitality\nGuide guest through the menu and beer list — make recommendations, answer questions, handle allergies and dietary restrictions accurately\nEnter orders and process payments in Toast POS\nWork with the kitchen to time courses and keep tickets moving\nMaintain clean, fully stocked, properly set sections throughout your shift\nSupport Resy-based reservations and larger parties, including private events and catering functions\nBehind the bar\nPour German drafts correctly — proper glassware, proper pour, proper head\nMix cocktails to spec and maintain consistency across all bartenders\nOpen, run, and close the bar: stocking, prep, keg changes, glassware, cleaning, inventory counts\nManage the bar as its own dining section, serving seated guests while keeping up with service well tickets\nCheck IDs on every guest who appears under 30 and refuse service when appropriate\nShared responsibilities\nComplete opening, running, and closing side work\nFollow all food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service standards\nParticipate in the tip pool per our written tip agreement\nPitch in during Oktoberfest, festivals, and private events — all hands on deck\nWhat We're Looking For\nRequired\n21 years of age or older (Anne Arundel County requirement for alcohol point-of-sale)\n1+ year of serving or bartending experience in a full-service restaurant\nAlcohol awareness certification (TIPS, ServSafe Alcohol, or RAM-approved equivalent) — current, or willing to obtain within [30/60] days of hire\nAvailability on nights, weekends, and holidays\nAbility to stand and walk for 6–10 hours, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and navigate stairs and outdoor patio surfaces\nComfortable working outdoors in the biergarten in heat, humidity, and cool weather\nPreferred\nExperience with Toast POS and 7shifts\nDraft system knowledge — keg changes, line care, troubleshooting foam\nCraft beer, wine, or cocktail knowledge, or real curiosity about German beer styles\nHigh-volume, high-energy service experience\nWhat makes someone great here\nYou'd rather be busy than bored\nYou read a table before they wave you down\nYou clean as you go without being asked\nYou take care of your coworkers, not just your own section\nSchedule & Season\nOld Stein Inn runs a strong fall and winter season.
