The right person for this position must be self‑motivated, intellectually curious and willing to dig deep into the development of our products to become a trusted advisor for engineering and product management. We need a team player who is comfortable working across the organization and has a pragmatic approach to problem solving.\nThis position follows the Company’s hybrid schedule which currently requires employees to work in the office at one of the following locations a minimum of three days per week: Addison, TX; Durham, NC; or Emeryville, CA.\nWhat you’ll do: Provide practical legal advice and counseling on a full range of product-related issues that arise domestically and internationally\nPartner closely with Product Management, Engineering and Strategy teams through the entire product lifecycle to identify issues, recommend practical solutions, and assist cross-functional efforts to achieve go-to-market goals\nServe as a legal advisor on AI matters, including advising on AI policies, liability, licensing, responsible AI development, deployment, and risk assessments\nDevelop and enhance processes designed to ensure ongoing product compliance with global laws and regulations, including global privacy laws, data security, export control and trade compliance\nNegotiate inbound and outbound license agreements\nParticipate in the company's open-source review process\nAdvise on privacy by design, privacy impact assessments, and data handling and minimization principles throughout the software development lifecycle\nReview product collateral and marketing materials\nServe as a subject matter expert on our products for the Contracts and Legal teams and assist with contract negotiations\nSupport the company's incident response program and respond to security events\nContribute to the company’s IP strategy and product roadmap, including management of patent and trademark portfolios and IP enforcement activities in coordination with product teams and outside counsel\nWe’re looking for someone with: JD from an accredited institution\nActive and in good standing in at least one state bar\nAt least 5 years of relevant legal experience at a law firm, government agency, and/or in-house, with substantive exposure to the software, SaaS, or related technology industry\nFamiliarity with emerging AI legal considerations, governance frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act) and regulations, with the ability to translate requirements into actionable guidance for product and engineering teams\nWorking knowledge of global privacy laws and their impact on software product development\nExceptionally good communication skills\nProven ability to work independently as well as part of a tightly-knit legal team\nAbility to work cross-functionally within an organization to build consensus and achieve strategic goals as well as the ability to enforce legal requirements without alienating clients\nAbout Tanium Tanium is the Autonomous IT company.
