When you work for Texas Materials, you are helping to support and build the infrastructure of Texas.About the RoleThe Estimator position is responsible for using a combination of past experiences and project specifications to accurately project the amount of materials, equipment, and man-hours that must be utilized in order to complete a given project. Based upon these calculations, they create a project budget that is then presented to Management.ResponsibilitiesIdentify bid opportunitiesVisit SiteAttend prebid meetingAnalyze take-offs for quantity comparisonsAnalyze geotech reportPrepare risk analysis/strategySolicit subcontractors and vendors / handle questions/scope issuesEnsure DBE goals are met, prepare & submit questions to the ownerOrder bid bond, request railroad/builders risk insurance quotesPrepare subcontractor and vendor scope sheetsMust possess thorough knowledge of project specifications and how the work is paidDetailed cost breakdownsCalculate trucking, production, and crew hoursBreak the work into phases (if necessary) and the differential production rates / multiple mobilizations requiredPrepare an estimate as sub / self-perform for some potentially subcontracted scopesIf successful, prepare post-bid documents for owners, handoff notes for operations and conduct handoff meetingQualifications4-year degree in construction management and or civil engineering is desired but not necessary, equivalent experience in heavy highway construction estimatingExperience in roadway construction estimating is requiredValid state driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is requiredKnowledge of HCSS, AGTEK Highway 3D, Microsoft Projects and all Microsoft Office Products a plusRequired SkillsDemonstrated commitment to achieving the organization's goals and objectivesHigh ethical standardsAttention to detailManage time efficiently to meet bid deadlinesTeam Player and a Self-StarterCheck bid documents before bid submissionStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong negotiation skills and ability to work with suppliersStrong attention to detailAbility to perform multiple tasks effectively with a focus on timeliness and responsivenessAbility to deal with the public in a pleasant, courteous, and calm manner in all circumstancesAbility to work under pressure and be multi-task orientedAbility to follow complex oral and written instructionsCapable of utilizing the internet effectively for research and evaluationAbility to drive change and sell new concepts and approaches through persistence, self-motivation, energy, tenacity, follow-through, and commitmentExcellent communication skills (both oral and written)Understanding of procurement's impact on financial resultsPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
