The museum offers challenging and creative work opportunities by promoting collaboration and teamwork.\nOVERVIEW OF ROLE\nUnder the direction of the Senior Manager of Engineering, the Engineering Assistant supports the maintenance and operation of building systems and equipment and assists with the general facilities needs of the museum as required.\nDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nDevelop and maintain a strong knowledge of the building structure and floorplans.\nPerform preventative maintenance of facilities mechanical systems to minimize failures through work that includes but is not limited to:\nTesting water systems and maintaining proper chemical levels;\nPerforming maintenance tasks on building equipment;\nMaintaining overall cleanliness, condition, and safety of all mechanical areas,\nEnsure the completion of preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled.\nServe as contractor escort to monitor contractor activity, assist contractors, report summaries to the Senior Engineering Technician, and ensure contractors leave work areas clean and orderly.\nClean and maintain mechanical room drain pans, troughs and related systems to ensure proper operation\nPerform light administrative tasks as assigned, including documentation, data entry, and work order updates\nPerform monthly fire extinguisher inspections and coordinate with/escort third-party contractors for required annual servicing and compliance inspections\nClean, prepare and paint surfaces in mechanical spaces including walls, floors and equipment using various types of paints and coatings.\nAssist with general labor tasks, material handling and project support when needed\nMaintain a positive work relationship with all staff in order to assist other departments as needed.\nTogether with Security ensure that the museum is free from danger, risk, or otherwise hazardous situations.\nWork special events as needed.\nRespond to emergencies and incidents 24/7 as an essential employee, including but not limited to weather emergencies, floods, fires, and environmental systems emergencies.\nAssist with snow removal during snow storms.\nAll other duties as assigned.\n\nJOB QUALIFICATIONS\nMinimum of one (1) year of previous experience in the facilities, maintenance, or building operations.\nDemonstrated knowledge of mechanical equipment and preventative maintenance.\nDemonstrated knowledge of proper use of hand and power tools safely; OSHA certifications preferred and training available upon hire.\nAbility to safely complete tasks without direct supervision.\nAble to multitask and take appropriate actions while performing under pressure.\nMust be a team player and able to communicate effectively with staff at all levels and with representatives from outside agencies.\nDemonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.\nMust be able to work in varying conditions, including but not limited to:\nVarying temperatures\nWet environment\nDusty conditions\nLoud noises\nMust be able to independently lift, push, and pull 50 pounds, use ladders and lifts, crawl in small spaces, and safely work in the vicinity of operating machinery.\nSCHEDULED SHIFT\nMonday through Friday from 9:00-5:00 or as required by circumstances and special events.
