In this role, you will spend roughly half of your time managing projects and leading a team of software engineers, and the other half contributing directly to the development of our embedded software solutions. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing leadership responsibilities with technical challenges. We are open to this role being an entry level management position for the right candidate, as long as the candidate has experience managing projects.\nKey Responsibilities:\nIndividual Contributor (~50%)\nActively participate in the design and development of embedded software solutions, contributing to coding, debugging, testing, and problem solving\nCollaborate directly with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of software and hardware components\nStay current with the latest technologies and industry trends, applying this knowledge to improve our products and processes\nTeam/Project/Functional Leadership (~50%)\nManage, mentor, and lead a team of 3 software engineers\nOversee the design, development, and deployment of embedded software, ensuring it meets industry standards and customer needs\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, product managers, and sales, to align software development with business objectives\nDrive the technical strategy and roadmap for software, contributing to the company’s growth and ensuring scalability\nImplement and uphold best practices in software development, including code reviews, testing, and code-reuse policies\nDraft, implement, and enforce software development policies or procedures where necessary\nManage project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes\nLead and manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within scope\nCreate, maintain, and oversee requirements documentation to ensure all stakeholders are aligned and the development process is clearly guided by well-defined objectives\nSupport the professional development of team members through coaching and career development opportunities\nMinimum Qualifications:\nBachelor’s or master’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field\n2+ years of experience managing embedded software projects\nProficiency in embedded C programming\nExperience using embedded real-time operating systems\nAbility to work in a small, growing company without established processes and the ability to deal with ambiguity and create structure where needed\nExperience managing software repositories, code reviews and releases, and strategies involving code reuse to improve maintainability and scalability across projects\nComfortable understanding electrical PCBA schematics\nExcellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage both projects and people effectively\nPreferred Qualifications (roughly in order of priority):\n3+ years of managing a software engineering team\n8+ years of experience developing embedding software engineering solutions\nExperience implementing or integrating application code on PLCs or mobile equipment controllers, particularly systems with CANopen or J1939 interfaces\nExperience developing embedded devices that operate on a CAN bus with either J1939 or CANopen communication protocols\nExperience generating customer facing technical documentation\nExperience with Python, C#, Rust, or similar for developing basic Windows utilities\nExperience with different project management methodologies, such as Agile, Waterfall, etc, and their related tools\nData Panel is an equal opportunity employer.
