Transportation Driver-PRN
Position Summary
The Transportation Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation for children and youth served by Houston Strong Children Services. This position plays a critical role in supporting access to medical appointments, school, family visits, court hearings, and other approved activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safely transport children and youth to and from scheduled appointments, visits, school, and agency-approved activities.
Ensure compliance with all Texas traffic laws, agency transportation policies, and DFPS Minimum Standards.
Maintain appropriate supervision and behavior management during transport.
Conduct vehicle safety checks before and after each trip.
Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and incident reports as required.
Ensure children are properly secured using age-appropriate restraints at all times.
Communicate effectively with agency staff regarding schedules, delays, or concerns.
Maintain confidentiality of all client and agency information.
Report any safety concerns, behavioral incidents, or accidents immediately to supervision.
Maintain cleanliness and general upkeep of assigned vehicle(s).
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Valid Texas driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to pass a criminal background check, driving record check, and drug screening.
Must be at least 21 years of age (per agency policy/insurance requirements).
Ability to interact appropriately with children who may have experienced trauma.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working with children, youth, or in social services.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Experience driving agency or passenger vehicles.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
Ability to assist children entering and exiting vehicles as needed.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds when necessary.
Work Environment
May include evenings, weekends, or on-call availability.
Work involves transporting children in agency or approved personal vehicles.
Exposure to varying weather conditions and traffic environments.
