Additional responsibilities may be assigned.\nProvide leadership and oversight for all recreation department services and programming.\nPlan, organize, implement, and evaluate recreation programming designed to support student treatment goals.\nSupervise and provide leadership to Recreation Specialists and other recreation staff.\nDevelop staffing schedules and complete administrative functions for the recreation department.\nAssess student recreation and leisure needs and develop individualized recreation opportunities.\nPlan and facilitate outdoor education programs, clubs, volunteer opportunities, community service experiences, and off-campus activities.\nCoordinate special events and therapeutic recreational experiences for students.\nParticipate in clinical staffing meetings and interdisciplinary treatment planning discussions.\nLead recreation department meetings and training activities.\nMaintain a safe and therapeutic environment during all recreation programming and community activities.\nSupervise ordering, inventory, maintenance, and distribution of recreation equipment and supplies.\nManage and monitor the recreation department budget.\nDevelop and maintain quarterly recreation activity calendars.\nEnhance the physical environment through program displays, bulletin boards, student projects, and facility-based recreation initiatives.\nDevelop and maintain strong relationships with community organizations and recreation partners.\nComplete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge plans, leisure education documentation, and discharge summaries.\nMonitor recreation staff compliance with documentation, charting requirements, and department procedures.\nAssist with professional relations activities and community outreach efforts.\nDevelop, evaluate, revise, and maintain department manuals, policies, and procedures.\nParticipate in quality assurance, risk management, program development, and human resource initiatives.\nSupport program-wide leadership initiatives and organizational improvement efforts.\nPerform other duties as assigned by the Associate Executive Director.\nSkills & Qualifications\nREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS\nEducation:\n\nBachelor's Degree in Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or a related field required.\nTherapeutic Recreation or related clinical recreation training preferred.\nExperience:\n\nMinimum of two years of experience in recreation, recreation therapy, outdoor education, or a related field required.\nPrevious leadership or management experience preferred.\nExperience working with adolescents in therapeutic, educational, or behavioral health settings preferred.\nExperience supervising staff and managing recreation programming preferred.\nCertifications & Training:\n\nCurrent CPR/AED certification required.\nCurrent First Aid certification required.\nWilderness First Responder certification required.\nState licensure and/or national certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist preferred.\nCertifications and training in recreational, outdoor, and adventure-based activities preferred.\nCompletion of required annual training related to special treatment procedures, risk management, and licensing requirements.\nSkills, Knowledge, and Abilities:\n\nKnowledge of recreation principles, practices, programming techniques, equipment, and safety standards.\nAbility to instruct, supervise, and actively participate in recreational and outdoor activities.\nKnowledge of adolescent behavioral health interventions and treatment approaches.\nStrong organizational, leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.\nAbility to supervise, motivate, and develop recreation staff.\nAbility to evaluate and modify activities to support student treatment goals and developmental needs.\nKnowledge of risk management practices and safety procedures related to recreation programming.\nAbility to collaborate effectively with clinical, educational, and residential teams.\nPRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS\n\nSuccessful completion of required state background checks.\nCandidates are initially hired as Recreation Director Trainees and may not have student contact while state background checks are processing.\nCompletion of assigned training requirements during the trainee period.\nOnce the state background check is returned and cleared, the title transitions to Recreation Director and floor shadowing may begin.\nVerification of education, certifications, employment history, and other applicable credentials.\nWORKING CONDITIONS/WORKING REQUIREMENTS\nPhysical Requirements:\n\nAbility to actively participate in recreational, outdoor, and experiential activities.\nAbility to stand, walk, hike,
