THIS POSITION IS FOR UPPERCLASSMEN ONLY.FRESHMEN ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR DEPARTMENT POSITIONS.Expected hours of work per week: 5 - 15+Work Location & Hours: The Math Center, Mills 381, 9 am - 5 pm, 7 pm - 11 pmQualifications for Position:Demonstrated excellence in math courses, with completion of Calc III preferredMath Major preparing to teach secondary-school math preferredGood communication skills in general, and demonstrated ability to communicate math in particularA delight in mathematicsEnthusiastic willingness to engage with others and to initiate such engagementDemonstrated dependabilityAbility to work some (of Mon - Thurs) evenings until 11 pmAbility to tutor Statistics, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, or Math for Educators is a bonusExpected Duties and Responsibilities:Follow routines for opening, closing, and maintaining the Math CenterGreet students as they enter or leave the Math CenterTutor students in a variety of math coursesReview course material (including working homework problems) as necessary to be prepared to answer student questions and to gain more personal insight into the material Resume skills development (NACE Competencies required by employers) Career & Self-Development by increasing understanding of concepts and problem-solving skills in mathematics.Communicate clearly mathematical concepts and skills.Critical Thinking to logically explain concepts and problem-solutions, and clearly answer questionsGlobal Literacy is shown by having a flexible and creative approach for students of different backgrounds and culturesLeadership by modeling encouragement and perseverance for students to complete assignments to the best of their abilitiesProfessional conduct to carry out Math Center responsibilities and work shiftsTeamwork by pitching in to cover Math Center shifts when neededTechnology is used to improve student learning and the efficient operation of the Math CenterWork Habits (with the alignment of Core Values)The College asks its staff members the following fundamental work habits:Do good work.
