While architecting the network, the Senior Network Engineer will also be responsible for assisting in development of network policies and standards and ensuring adherence to those standards. This position will play a key role in traffic engineering and ensuring the highest possible network uptime and performance as well as a network that can scale to accommodate high growth. Key to all of this is a highly collaborative attitude to support an employee and client centric culture. Reports To: Network Infrastructure Manager What you will be doing:  Responsible for assisting the development and migration to a future network architecture that supports current and new service offerings while ensuring the network can scale to support rapid growth and expansion.  Collaborate with the NOC on network change management to ensure proper planning, tracking, reporting and communication of network maintenance windows.  Assist in analyzing current infrastructure and drive to a simplified and standardized network architecture that will provide a high performing and reliable service to our customers.  Play a key role in the design and management of all aspects of the network: fiber transport, fiber to the premise, internet, VoIP, video, layer 3 routing and layer 2 switching.  Work with the team to identify areas to improve the network operating costs by helping analyze all network costs to include circuit contracts, facility agreements, contract negotiation, software costs, maintenance costs, etc.  Work with management in developing a software, hardware maintenance support and spares strategy to ensure timely resolution of network issues  Responsible for Tier 3 support for resolution of network performance issues  Provide an active role in the support of our BSS/OSS efforts to automate work whenever possible to improve data integrity & optimize the process.  Work with team to create and adopt industry standards, efficient workflows, and best practices resulting in optimized engineering, operations, and service delivery practices to ensure a delightful customer experience  Assist in the development and upkeep of strong standards to promote productivity, accountability, and high morale  Continually work with the team to improve the customer experience and performance of the network at all network layers.  Working with transportation protocols such as MPLS and optical technologies such as WDM and ROADM to ensure proper traffic handling, including high-speed failover during network events.  Ensuring that traffic is appropriately routed and switched using protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and MPLS between the transport and peering layers of the Client network.  Work with internal and external customers to ensure proper network handoff provisioning for NNI/UNI connectivity design, validation, and optimization.  Configure, monitor, and maintain internal and external BGP resources, including iBGP and eBGP routing to external connectivity and downstream customers.  Continually monitoring and evaluating traffic patterns and new peering opportunities.  Support the NOC for advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics.  Coordinate with the OSP engineers for optical network design, including placement and equipment selection.  Perform transport layer firmware testing and validation to ensure minimal customer impact to services.  Work with the Network Engineering and NOC teams to ensure DDoS mitigation performs as expected with minimal impact on customers and the Client network.  Provide network assistance by working in close contact with the vendors and clients.  Ensure the knowledge base is current and accurate, and the technical issues are tracked and documented in a detailed format.  Participate in on-call shifts as needed in support of our 24x7 network operations.  Responsible for creating and maintaining complete and thorough layers 1 through 3 network documentation including but not limited to IP addresses, site/transport levels, equipment, protocols General:  Represent Surf professionally to satisfy immediate external stakeholder needs to foster return business and establish Client as an “easy to do business with” provider.  Respond clearly and effectively to verbal requests, over the phone or in-person, and oral or written instructions.  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.  According to company policies, maintain regular, consistent, professional attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.  Adhere to company policies, regulations, procedures, and principles.
