Ability to adhere to a budget. Good written and oral English communication skills. Ability to work as member of a team, to accept supervision, to maintain appropriate boundaries while working in close inter-personal relationships. Ability to train residents in basic cooking and nutrition. Good organizational skills. Ability to be responsible, flexible, creative, empathetic, and able to relate effectively with clients, other staff, professionals and members of the community.\nDrivers license for at least two years and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier.\nValid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.\n\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\nAssume primary responsibility for the preparation of nutritious, balanced, varied meals, with an emphasis on simple, whole, non-institutional foods.\nWork closely with residents to plan and shop for meals. Look for ways to maximize resident involvement in the planning process.\nUtilize community resources to buy nutritious foods as cheaply as possible (e.g., Food Bank, bulk buying from Health Food stores and Co-ops, outreach with local restaurants, solicitation of donations, etc.). Model this behavior for residents.\nBe responsible for maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen. Monitor to ensure that food is stored and prepared according to health and safety codes.\nParticipate in and oversee the clean-up process.\nTrain residents in various aspects of food preparation and sanitation.\nOther duties as assigned.\n\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\nAbility to: operate a motor vehicle; climb stairs; possess good communication skills; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs.
