Utility Storekeeper

Utility StorekeeperUnder the general supervision of the Purchasing and Stores Manager, maintains the physical stock required to operate the utility effectively. Performs manual and clerical duties in receiving, checking, storing, and issuing materials. Performs purchasing functions, as needed to maintain effective operations.Unloads materials and matches goods received against purchase orders and vouchers for item, quantity, condition, and price. Updates online database to keep accurate record of disposition of materials. Arranges materials in bins and on shelves. Prepares and routes materials and equipment for shipment. Assists operations personnel in retrieving materials; returns unused materials to bin/shelf. Fills materials requisitions and delivers to customers. Secures the safekeeping of materials and the stockroom. Performs delivery and messenger service, including mail pickup and delivery among NPU facilities. Uses materials handling equipment, including electric forklift. Generates and analyzes stock reports to ensure adequate supplies; works with operations personnel to determine stocking levels and generates orders at preestablished points. Assists in preparing and disposing of scrap and surplus materials. Audits physical count of the inventory versus records and investigates and resolves discrepancies. Makes recommendations to financial staff for adjustments to inventory records. Performs purchasing duties, such as entering orders, making and receiving vendor and customer calls, checking the status of orders, and expediting orders, on an as needed basis.Participates on Department-wide work teams and committees chartered to evaluate or improve processes and promote the overall goals of the Department. Works with management and fellow employees to identify and correct health and safety concerns. Participates in setting group goals, assessing group accomplishments and providing.Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or possess an equivalency high school diploma, supplemented by at least three (3) years experience in materials handling, inspection, or record keeping. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to interact positively, professionally and proactively with internal customers, external contacts and contractors. Able to instill confidence by resolving customer problems in a prompt, courteous and timely manner. Able to analyze data and exercise good judgement in determining cost effective stocking levels. Able to gather information and prepare reports. Able to operate a computer, key in data accurately, and generate reports. Able to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Thorough knowledge of storekeeping and shipping methods and practices. Ability to learn to recognize a wide variety of utility materials, supplies and equipment. Ability to make simple arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately. Ability to understand and comply with safety rules and procedures. Ability to process purchase orders through integrated computer systems.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to: Perform heavy manual storeroom work requiring good physical condition, including lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, etc. Possess a valid State of Connecticut driver's license.
