The prospective ABA apprentice will complete training through an IU approved course sequence that is verified by Applied Behavior Analyst International (ABAI) while on the job. Under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the apprentice will assist the program staff with daily therapeutic and educational activities. The ABA Apprentice will gain hands-on experience in delivering high-quality ABA services to students in specialized and therapeutic educational settings.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.\nUnderstand and apply the basic principles of ABA in the school setting as directed\nAssist with ABA services to students under the supervision of a BCBA\nAssist in conducting comprehensive functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) and functional analyses\nSupport the development and implementation of individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)\nCollect data and document student progress towards goals\nMaintain consistency of BIPs by communicating and providing input to teachers and other staff\nParticipate in ongoing training and professional development activities\nCollaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure cohesive treatment strategies\nDevelop positive relationships with students, families, and staff\nCommunicate and work cooperatively with co-workers and students to meet student needs\nAssistance with the documentation of student, behavior, attendance, record maintenance, end of year reports and other reports as required\nAttend meetings as directed by the program supervisor\nUnderstand and adhere to all Intermediate Unit policies and procedures\nAdhere to legal and ethical standards in the provision of behavioral health and educational services\nDemonstrate cooperation and flexibility in performing other related duties as assigned\nMaintains student and/or program confidentiality\nMaintain enrollment in credentialing program and successful completion of coursework to earn Applied Behavior Analyst certification within the determined timeframe provided at date of hire.\nMeets all coursework requisites, passing grades, and credentialing requirements to successfully continue in the program\nImplement de-escalation techniques and physical interventions, in accordance with safety care certification competencies without restrictions to certification, to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment\nMaintain a valid state driver’s license and ability to drive without advanced notice\nSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nThe apprentice assists in the therapeutic/behavioral support of students individually or in small groups under the direct supervision of the classroom/program teacher and BCBA.\nQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators.\nMATHEMATICAL SKILLS:\nAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret charts or graphs.\nREASONING ABILITY:\nAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.\nOTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:\nAbility to work with exceptional students. Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
