Job Details Job Location Madison HQ - Madison, GA Position Type Full Time Travel Percentage None Description Seachem Laboratories, Inc., the nations largest independently-owned manufacturer of aquarium supplements and supplies, is seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support our growing QC and R&D teams. Were located in Madison, GA, close enough to Atlanta and Athens to give easy access to a large and vibrant city and a regional research center, while also maintaining the small-town feel. As the Laboratory Technician the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting laboratory and research operations, performing maintenance functions, and completing non-technical routine laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of the Laboratory and Research Chemist and Research Director. Additional responsibilities include maintenance of research livestock systems and assisting with care of display aquaria throughout the facility Typical functions include the following: Performing routine laboratory procedures such as Quality Control testing of raw ingredients and finished goods, preparation of materials in support of Production and Research, and routine maintenance of analytical equipment. Collation and reporting results in timely manner to meet project requirements. Performing basic documentation of quality control data. Setup and operation of laboratory equipment in preparation for processing samples. Maintenance of supply inventory by requesting orders, unpacking, and placing in appropriate spaces. Maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining quality assurance records. Maintenance of a clean and sanitary work area and disposal of waste generated throughout the laboratory in accordance with standard good laboratory practices and procedures. Communicating any technical issues involving testing to Laboratory management. May lift, push, pull and carry up to approximately 50 lbs. Be available for supplemental hours as necessary to meet project requirements. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to understand and follow simple oral and written directions, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, and to operate laboratory equipment. The Laboratory Technician is required to have knowledge of the maintenance of routine records and reports; and of elementary laboratory techniques and safety precautions. Ability to perform basic laboratory tasks, to keep samples properly marked, to maintain adequate written laboratory records, and to utilize a computer. Ability to visually color match by eye. The successful candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and a team player. The successful candidate can rapidly adapt, reorganize and reprioritize tasks according to changing business needs. Skills with Microsoft Office applications are required. Education and Experience Minimum Associates Degree (Bachelors Degree preferred) in Chemistry, Biochemistry Aquarium Science, Environmental Science, or program focusing on Clinical Laboratory skills. Experience with water quality testing and enthusiasm for keeping aquaria are essential. Industrial experience is highly valued.
