Interstate Moving Operations Manager

Position Summary The Interstate Operations Manager leads all long-distance (interstate) moving operations, ensuring efficient execution, regulatory compliance, and a high-quality customer experience. This role is responsible for driving performance across dispatch, fleet utilization, labor management, and cost control, while supporting aggressive growth in interstate revenue. This position requires direct experience in the moving and storage industry.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee all interstate moving operations, including dispatch, scheduling, routing, and load planningManage driver and crew assignments to maximize utilization, efficiency, and on-time deliveryCoordinate cross-branch operations to support long-distance capacity and nationwide coverageEnsure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standardsMonitor Hours of Service (HOS), driver logs, and safety performance across interstate operationsDrive cost control initiatives, including labor efficiency, fuel management, and vendor performanceCollaborate with sales to align booked revenue with operational capacity and executionImplement and refine SOPs specific to interstate household goods (HHG) movesResolve escalated service issues, claims situations, and operational breakdownsLead and develop operations staff, drivers, and field leadershipRegulatory & Compliance OversightMaintain full compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations and DOT requirementsEnforce company safety policies and incident response proceduresOversee shipment documentation, bill of lading accuracy, and claims mitigation processesFinancial & Operational PerformanceOptimize routing, linehaul efficiency, backhauls, and load consolidationSupport pricing strategy with real operational cost insightIdentify and execute process improvements to increase scalability and marginLeadership & Team DevelopmentBuild and lead a high-performance interstate operations teamSet clear expectations and hold team accountable to KPIs and service standardsPartner with HR on recruiting, onboarding, and retention of drivers and operations staffPromote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvementRequired Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)3+ years of experience in the moving and storage industry (household goods required)Direct experience with interstate/long-distance moving operationsStrong working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and DOT complianceProven experience managing dispatch and multi-state operationsDemonstrated ability to manage P&L performance and operational KPIsExperience with claims management and valuation processesStrong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience with van line operations or independent interstate authorityMulti-branch operational oversight experienceBackground in scaling a growing interstate divisionExperience with HHG shipment lifecycle (estimate → load → transit → delivery → claims)Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salary + performance-based bonusPaid time off and paid holidaysCompany paid Health benefits (medical, dental)Growth opportunity within a rapidly expanding company
