Flagger

Under general supervision of a superintendent, a Flagger will perform flagging operations on a construction project and assists in traffic control to enhance and promote a safe work zone.ResponsibilitesLoads/unloads work zone equipment to/from the company vehicle. Assists with setting out signs and cones around work areas to divert traffic. Alerts work crews to approaching traffic and potential hazardsFlags motorists to make them aware of obstacles or repair work ahead.Safely directs traffic through active work zones while standing, grasping a stop/slow paddle and utilizing radio communication.Assists at times with directing dump trucks into the work zoneMay assist in setting out signs and cones around work areas to divert traffic.May at times drive pilot car when necessary and ONLY if driving record is acceptableAvailability to work overtime and possible weekends when necessary for project.Essential FunctionsAbility to lift and carry heavy loads of 40 to 50 pounds or more on a day-to-day basisThe ability to exert maximum muscle force to life, push, pull, or carry objectsCapacity to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods, often ranging from 8 to 14 hours. Ability to quickly make coordinated movements with hands, arms, and legsComfort working in extreme temperatures (heat and cold, humidity, and dusty environmentsAbility to understand and carry out verbal and or written directions paying attention to detail Ability to understand and carry out verbal and or written directionsAbility to communicate effectively through signaling with clear, firm, and courteous communication skills Ability to make clear decisions related to traffic movement, practice continuous situational awareness and react quickly to potential emergenciesQualificationsHigh School diploma/GEDPrior construction or paving experience preferred but not requiredFlagger or Work Zone Traffic Control CertificationValid Driver’s License and acceptable driving recordEligible to work in designated school zones being in the presence of minorsAbility to work in a team environment providing cooperation and respect to all individuals as well as the general public. Reliable transportation is required.
