The challenge is that the original platform was built primarily in Scala and optimized for accuracy rather than speed and efficiency.We are looking for a senior engineer to help us modernize it.What You’ll Work On• Convert an existing production AI application from Scala to Python while maintaining its existing accuracy and functionality• Analyze the current Scala architecture and understand the reasoning and data-processing pipelines already in place• Identify and eliminate unnecessary or inefficient processing• Redesign workflows so the system retrieves information from the fastest and most appropriate source first, rather than automatically processing every available document• Integrate existing Dragin services and APIs, including CRM data and our internal financial-document and bank-statement extraction models• Separate data extraction from AI reasoning where doing so can materially improve speed and cost• Improve latency, scalability, maintainability, and overall system architecture• Work closely with our existing Python/backend and AI teamsWhat We’re Looking ForThis is a senior-level role. We are specifically looking for someone who can quickly understand an existing Scala codebase and make architectural decisions, not someone learning Scala on the job.Required:• 5+ years of professional software-development experience• Strong professional experience with Scala• Strong professional experience with Python• Experience working with large or complex existing codebases• Strong understanding of APIs, backend architecture, data pipelines, and system optimization• Ability to profile existing systems and identify major performance bottlenecks• Experience designing production-quality, maintainable softwareExperience with any of the following is a major plus:• LLMs / AI applications• RAG or document-question-answering systems• Financial-document processing• OCR / document extraction• Financial calculations or fintech systems• Salesforce or CRM integrations• Migrating production applications between programming languagesImportant: Applicants with less than 5 years of professional software-development experience will not be considered for this position.About the EngagementThis is a temporary 3–6 month contract position, but it requires approximately 40 hours per week or more during the engagement.We are willing to pay competitively for someone with the right level of Scala expertise and experience.There is also the potential for this position to convert into a permanent full-time role with Dragin following the initial project.About DraginDragin builds technology for the revenue-based financing and commercial-finance industries.
