Available with the Parks and Recreation Department: POSITION: Maintenance Technician – Aquatics & Equipment Supervisor LTC IV (Parks Department) LOCATION: Lafayette Parks and Recreation; Maintenance division HOURS: M-F 7:00am- 3:00pm Full-time; Days, evenings, weekends and some holidays may be required. SALARY: $2226.84-$2561.67/bi-weekly DESCRIPTION: Incumbent serves as Maintenance Technician/Aquatics & Equipment Supervisor for the City of Lafayette Parks Department with a focus on the repair maintenance and operations of the department’s aquatic facilities and equipment. Responsible for the overall maintenance and operations of aquatic facilities including repairing specialized equipment. Monitors and records chemical levels in department pools as assigned, making appropriate adjustments. Submits reports and samples to agencies and certifies pool operation as required. Maintains daily operations check sheet and other records of work performed, materials and equipment used. Assists with general maintenance of parks and grounds such as mowing, snow removal, trimming, removing leaves, trees and limbs, trash removal and general landscaping. Assists with landscaping duties such as grading slopes, seeding, cutting grasses, trimming branches and removing tree stumps. Assists in maintaining buildings and other structures, such as shelters, bridges, and buildings, including painting/patching walls, and making minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs, such as unclogging toilets, changing light bulbs and ballasts, and repairing signs. Assists in installation of playground equipment. Operates various heavy and light equipment and hand tools such as bobcats, backhoe, forklift, dump truck and snowplow in effecting the general maintenance and safety of parks and grounds. Regularly checks and ensures proper maintenance of Department equipment, tools and vehicles. Keeps Department equipment, tools and vehicles clean and reports repairs. REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age, and high school diploma or GED required. Education or experience or both in building/equipment maintenance preferred. Must possess valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record. Ability to serve on rotational 24-hour on-call schedule and respond swiftly, rationally and decisively to emergency situations. Possession of or ability to attain Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) Certification within specified time. Possession of or ability to obtain Indiana category 3A/3B pesticide applicator license within specified time. Possession of or ability to attain Certified Pool Operator license within a specified time. Ability to operate all equipment in the Department, including but not limited to, snow removal equipment, mowing equipment, and various excavation tools ranging from hand tools to motorized equipment. Working knowledge of various mechanical trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical; and the ability to properly operate various hand and power tools, such as hammers, screw drivers, wrenches, grinders, sanders, and power saws. Ability to read, write, comprehend and act upon verbal and written instructions, policies, and procedures pertaining to assigned duties, and work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision, often under time pressure. Ability to work on several tasks at the same time and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions. Ability to supervise and direct assigned personnel including volunteers, volunteer groups and interns. Ability to occasionally work extended, evening or weekend, or both, hours and travel out of town for training, sometimes overnight. Ability to maintain a positive professional appearance, demeanor and attitude, and work harmoniously with all contacts in an enthusiastic and cooperative manner. Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the position, including exerting sustained physical effort, bending, reaching, crouching/kneeling, standing/walking for long periods of time, working in awkward positions for long periods of time, climbing ladders, pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying objects weighing more than fifty pounds, handling/grasping/fingering objects, hearing mechanical sounds, and close vision. Must be able to work outdoors with exposure to various elements of the outdoors. Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, other City departments, and the public including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities. Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers and occasionally with the public for purposes of exchanging information.
