We work with the R&D departments of some of the industries leading businesses. The machinist position is integral in creating test specimens and production parts. This is a dynamic role where no two days are the same. We are looking for someone with mechanical aptitude, comfortable running manual cutting tools and a willingness to learn.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities:\nReviews manufacturing planning, part-specific engineering information, set-up information and/or related instructions to understand appropriate work process and quality requirements for completed product.\nTransfer cutting lines from engineering to part surfaces prior to trim, including trim lines, orientation markings, serial numbers, etc.\nPerform setup and cutting operations such as slicing with table saw, surface grinder and band saw.\nPerform operation of 3 axis CNC mill under instruction of a senior machinist.\nPerform dimensional conformance checks of machined parts using digital caliper, micrometer, height gage, dial indicator and mass scale.\nPerform visual inspection of machined parts to check for delamination, break through, flaring, etc.\nPerforms routine maintenance of equipment, tools and work areas, e.g. machine wipe-down, sweeping, scrap removal.\nCommunicate effectively with onsite engineers.\nQualifications:\nAbility to read and interpret simple drawings and written instructions\nBasic math and geometry/trigonometry skill including angle measurement and calculation, conversion of fractions to decimal equivalents, etc.\nAbility to use basic machining equipment including band saw, tile saw, table saw, drill press, and slicer machines (surface-grinder style equipment).\nAbility to use basic measuring tools including tape measure, calipers, micrometers and scales.\nAble to work alone to complete tasks with minimal supervision\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to quality.\nIn order to comply with U.S. government regulations applicable to this position, all applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or a “protected individual”, as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)\nOffer of employment will be contingent on completion of background check and a drug screening.\nMust be able to work off shifts if needed\nEducation:\nHigh School diploma or GED required\nPrior experience with powered cutting equipment (table saw, band saw, surface grinder, chop saw), preferably using diamond coated blades and/or flood coolant -or-\nPrior experience with trades involving precision measurement and cutting of laminated material (ie woodworking)\nOther Preferred Experience:\nOperation of a 3 axis CNC mill\nTime spent working with composites and/or in the aerospace/testing industry\nTrade school certification in machining or composites processing\nBasic understanding of G and M code (ie posted machine code)\nBasic knowledge of CAD systems\nBasic understanding of hydraulic/pneumatic/mechanical systems\nOther Skills and Abilities:\nUnderstanding of composite materials and design for aerospace manufacturing.\nAbility to read and interpret drawings and written instructions\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to quality.\nStrong computer skills are required.\nAbility and flexibility to successfully work in an environment with varying scope and complexity across projects\nPhysical Demands:\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
