The Controller will oversee financial operations for a portfolio of assets, ensuring timely and accurate month-end financial reporting. This leadership role requires strong managerial skills, the ability to establish internal controls, and a customer service-focused attitude within the accounting team. The Controller will work closely with senior management and various departments to ensure the integrity of financial reporting and operational efficiency.\r\nKey Responsibilities\r\nOversee the preparation of monthly financial statements for the assigned portfolio. Ensure the timely completion of month-end closing activities and review financial packets for accuracy and adherence to company policies.\r\nLead and support the property accounting team, providing direction, mentorship, and ensuring alignment with company goals. Foster a collaborative environment and a customer service-oriented approach within the department.\r\nDevelop and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets, improve workflows, and ensure adherence to accounting standards and policies.\r\nManage cash activities, including approving wire transfers, releasing Positive Pay exceptions, and signing checks within established limits.\r\nReview and approve bank reconciliations prepared by Property Accountants for properties within the portfolio.\r\nCollaborate with Regional Managers (RMs) and Property Accountants to assist with forecasting and distribution calculations. Ensure accuracy and timely submission of financial reports.\r\nOversee property tax payments, ensuring timely remittance and accurate recording in the financial statements. Manage the setup of sales tax accounts as necessary.\r\nAssist with audit inquiries and prepare schedules as needed.
