This position coordinates advanced traffic data collection activities and reviews traffic engineering studies, plans, and specifications to improve the safety and efficiency of Louisiana’s transportation network. Typical assignments include Complete Streets and Vulnerable Road User (VRU) studies, speed-setting studies, traffic signal design and optimization, and plan reviews.\n\nThe ideal candidate is a technically skilled, analytical, and detail-oriented self-starter who can coordinate multiple assignments independently and quickly learn new concepts, technologies, and techniques. Applicants with experience in traffic data collection and analysis, traffic studies, CADD, technical plan review, or applying traffic engineering standards and manuals are encouraged to apply.\n\nPlease visit our DOTD Career Center for more information about our agency:\nhttps://dotd.la.gov/about/office-of-management-and-finance/human-resources/career-center/\n\nMinimum Qualifications\n\nPossession of a high school diploma or GED plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR\n\nSix months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR\n\nEighteen semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.\n\nJob Specification\n\nThe official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.\n\nJob Duties and Other Information\n\nJob Duties:\n\nCoordinates traffic data collection activities with District personnel and other appropriate parties.\nLeads traffic data collection and analysis activities, including manual peak-hour turning movement counts, 24-hour machine volume counts, speed studies, intersection diagrams, collision diagrams, and other related traffic studies.\nCompiles, analyzes, and presents traffic data in a usable format and develops recommendations for corrective action.\nUses Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software to develop traffic control plans, traffic signal inventories, and other traffic-related designs.\nReviews traffic engineering studies, plans, and specifications, including speed studies, pedestrian crosswalk studies, traffic signal plans, traffic equipment specifications, and traffic sign plans.\nAssists with developing scopes for traffic engineering data collection services for Traffic Engineering, Project Management, Planning, Environmental, and other DOTD sections.\nCommunicates and coordinates with consultants, plan development engineers, planners, project managers, District Traffic Operations Engineers, and other stakeholders regarding traffic engineering studies and data collection activities.\nAssists with developing and updating traffic engineering policies, procedures, standards, and specifications.\nAttends public meetings and provides technical support to project teams, as needed.\nPerforms other duties as assigned, including emergency or disaster support activities.\n\nPosition-Specific Details:\n\nAppointment Type: This position may be filled by probational appointment, promotion, or detail to special duty in accordance with applicable State Civil Service rules.\n\nCompensation: This position receives premium pay of $2.00 per hour for all hours worked.\n\nAdditional compensation may be considered for applicants who possess extraordinary job-related qualifications or credentials in accordance with State Civil Service Rule 6.5(g) and DOTD policy.
