Developer Relations

The Head of Developer Relations is a hybrid leadership role at AlphaSignal that combines editorial direction, developer advocacy, and audience growth strategy to serve a community of 300,000 AI engineers. The core mission is to make the platform "impossible to ignore" by shipping high-quality technical content across various formats, including newsletters, GitHub repos, interactive notebooks, live workshops, etc. Reporting directly to the CEO, this "rare hybrid" operator is responsible for setting the editorial POV, leading organic subscriber growth, and building deep relationships within the AI research and engineering communityAbout AlphaSignalAlphaSignal is the largest technical AI newsletter in the world. 300,000 developers, engineers, and researchers at every major AI lab and Fortune 500 rely on us daily to cut through the noise and stay on top of what's actually moving the AI industry forward. Our goal is simple: be the AI information layer for AI engineers and technical leaders. We're not a traditional newsroom. Our readers don't want news, they want signal. They want to know which paper is worth reading, which model is worth fine-tuning on, which framework is worth integrating, and which release will reshape their roadmap. That's what we deliver and over the next 12 months, we're expanding that delivery into a full platform: a website with live coverage of the space, AI-generated newsletters tailored to each reader, a mobile app, education, and live events. All anchored by the same thing our readers have trusted us for since day one.The RoleThis role does not exist in most companies' org charts. It is part editor-in-chief, part developer advocate, part audience growth lead, and part community builder and we've learned the hard way that none of those titles, hired in isolation, gets us where we need to go. Career content marketers don't have the technical depth our audience demands. Career DevRel folks haven't owned the content strategy that drives subscriber growth for a media company. We need the rare hybrid. This is not a "manage from a distance" role. You'll be in the trenches every day writing, building, posting, shipping, and obsessing over what's working and what's not. You will lead a team of writers but you will also be the one setting the bar with your own output. If a post needs to go out and it's 11pm, you're the one hitting publish. You'll think about content in the broadest sense anything AlphaSignal can create to grow our audience, build credibility with the AI engineering community, and put us at the center of the conversation. That includes blog posts and threads, yes, but also interactive notebooks, GitHub repos, mini products, research breakdowns, workshops, tutorials, livestreams, panels, and formats we haven't invented yet.Your mission: make AlphaSignal impossible to ignore across every major surface where AI engineers gather. What You'll OwnEditorial direction and voiceSet and guard the editorial POV across our newsletter, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and any new surfaces. Decide what we cover, what we ignore, and what angle we bring.Be the in-house authority on what's happening in AI — papers, model releases, tooling, frameworks, evals, agents, infra. You read the timeline so our readers don't have to.Maintain the AlphaSignal voice — sharp, technical, unmistakable — across every post, repo, video, and thread.Audience growth (newsletter + social)Lead organic subscriber growth as your North Star: You are responsible for setting targets and running experiments, but your primary lever is shipping high-quality, technical content that converts impressions and shares into long-term retention.Drive measurable growth on X, LinkedIn, and Threads — then open up new fronts (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) and make them work.Spot what's about to go viral in AI before everyone else. Monitor the landscape obsessively, identify the trending conversations and debates, and put AlphaSignal at the center.Technical content and education (in every format)Think in formats, not just words. When a major AI development drops — say, a new architecture, an open-source release, a paper from a frontier lab — you don't just write a summary. You ask: what's the most valuable thing we can build around this? A how-to guide. A research breakdown. An interactive notebook. A GitHub repo. A mini product. A workshop.Personally write and ship technical content that an AI engineer would learn from. Anything we publish under your direction should clear the bar of "I couldn't have learned this from skimming X for an hour."Lead workshops, livestreams, X Spaces, and tutorials — virtual and in-person — that turn AlphaSignal from a publication into a destination.Community and developer relationsBe present in the AI engineering community. On X. On GitHub. In Discords. At conferences. People should know your name as the face of AlphaSignal.Represent AlphaSignal at AI conferences, meetups, hackathons, and dev events. Speak, host, run workshops, and connect.Build relationships with AI researchers, engineers, founders, and well-known figures. Co-create content with them — guest pieces, joint research, co-hosted conversations, panels.Identify and partner with creators and thought leaders to amplify reach and credibility.Team and brandLead and grow our team of writers. Manage current team members, hire new talent as we scale, give clear direction and sharp feedback.Guard the brand across every channel and format. Every post, reply, video, repo, and thread should feel unmistakably AlphaSignal.Who You AreYou're a technical operator with real fluency in AI. You can read a paper, ship a notebook, hold your own in a conversation with researchers, and write something an AI engineer would actually learn from. You think in formats, not just words, and you're plugged into the discourse before it trends. Most of all, this is the role you've been waiting for: you want to become a public voice in AI engineering - the kind of person whose name on something signals it's worth a read. You ship quickly, you live by metrics, and you're as comfortable setting strategy in the morning as pushing a thread out at midnight.Bonus PointsA track record of growing a media surface. A newsletter, podcast, YouTube channel, or community you grew yourself, and can speak to what worked and what didn't.A background as an ML engineer, applied AI engineer, or AI-adjacent founder before pivoting to content, DevRel, or media. You've sat on the builder side of the table our readers sit on.A track record of shipping small products, tools, notebooks, or open-source content that engineers actually picked up and used. Why Join AlphaSignalReach. You'll shape what 300,000+ AI engineers read every day, and define how that audience compounds. Few content roles in tech come with this much leverage in a single hire.Independence. We are not owned by a foundation model lab or a cloud platform. Our readers trust us because our voice is our own. You'll inherit that trust and define what we do with it.Real ownership. Small team, no bureaucracy, high impact. You set strategy, hire, and ship.Center of the most exciting arena in tech. AI is the most consequential thing happening in software right now. You'll be in the room.Quarterly performance bonuses.Four weeks PTO.Fully remote.Healthcare benefits (we cover 80%).How to ApplySend us:A short note on why you, and what you'd want to ship in your first 90 days.Links to 2–3 pieces of work you're proud of — written, video, code, community, talks, repos. Anything that shows your taste and craft.Optionally: a short hot take on what AlphaSignal should be doing differently.
