Fleming County SchoolsJob DescriptionUpdated February 2024Class Code: 2040 (EL)2050 (MS)2060 (HS)2080 (CTE)2081 (CTE - 12 mo.)JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition Title: TeacherResponsible To: PrincipalBasic Function: Fulfill the requirements of classroom instruction withpunctuality, reliability, and responsibility.Performance Responsibilities:Has a prepared unit plan that is appropriate for classroom/content/grade level assignment.Exercise proper care of materials and equipment.Communicate needs of the classroom to the proper personnel.Arrive for work at the assigned hour and does not leave before the assigned time.Communicate appropriately and effectively with other staff members, parents, students, and with administration.Accept assistance, advice, and guidance from those responsible for supervising his/her performance, and make a concerted effort toward improving or refining skills.Share ideas, plans, materials, and facilities.Alert to the district's, school's, and his/her own goals and priorities and seeks professional learning appropriate to these needs.Keep in confidential information that has been obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purpose or is required by law.The teacher, in his/her association with others, respects the rights, feelings, and differences among individuals, and communicates directly with the person(s) involved in any situation.Adhere to professional code of ethics stipulated by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.Maintains standards - Employ classroom management techniques that result in a positive atmosphere for teaching and learning.A. Classroom Managementa. The teacher begins the class promptly.b. The teacher communicates to students those behaviors expected of them, orthere is evidence that expected behaviors have been communicated.c. The students exhibit classroom behaviors, which promotes active engagementfrom all participants in the lesson.d. Inappropriate behaviors receive immediate and appropriate teacher intervention.B. Materialsa. The teacher chooses appropriate materials and/or equipment for teaching alesson.b. The teacher handles efficiently the materials and/or equipment in the classroomsetting.C. Planning for Instruction - Engage in effective unit/lesson planning.a. Follow school or district-established curriculum documents and processes.b. Establish appropriate objectives (or learning targets) for each unit/lesson.c. Utilize effective teaching strategies to promote student engagement andachievement.D. Teaching the Lesson -Recognize student differences in needs, abilities, and interestsand imparts instruction so that these differences are met.a. Communicates with the student the objective of the lesson.b. Communicate with the student the purpose of the learning and makeslearning/content relevant.c. Relate the learning from the lesson being taught to previous learnings andassists students in making connections.d. Communicate with students are told how they will be accountable fordemonstrating proficiency in the learning.e. Demonstrate sound, up-to-date knowledge of the subject matter being taught.f. Check periodically throughout the lesson for the students' understanding of theobjective.g. Provide practice experiences for the student of the appropriate number andvariety to insure mastery of the objective.h. Demonstrate knowledge of reinforcement theory throughout the lesson.i. Each aspect of the lesson gives evidence of the teacher's attention tomaintaining a classroom climate conducive to learning (Feeling Tone).j. The activities of the lesson demonstrate the teacher's desire to include theinterests of the students in the classroom.k. Encourage, praise, and/or acknowledge student effort appropriately.l. Manage instruction in such a way that each student demonstrates a measure ofsuccess.m. There is evidence that practice is scheduled in such a manner as to guaranteeretention of learnings.n. Gives students the opportunity to verbalize the critical attribute(s) of thelearning before leaving the lesson.o. Collect data from the lesson that enables him/her to evaluate each student'sperformance, and assists in planning tomorrow's lesson. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.Minimum Qualifications:Valid Kentucky teacher certification for the grade level/contentTerms of Employment:Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.Evaluation:Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for certified personnel.
