Material Handlers at SMT work with production materials, electronic components, inventory, kitting, receiving, cycle counts, material discrepancies and shipping activities. Pallet jacks, floor lifts and other material-handling equipment may be used, but accurate control of material is central to the position.\n\nPrevious electronics or manufacturing-materials experience is valuable, but it is not required for every level. SMT also hires and trains entry-level candidates who demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, learning ability and a genuine interest in developing manufacturing skills.\n\nWhat You May Do\n\nResponsibilities vary based on experience and demonstrated capability and may include:\n\n* Kit and pull materials required for manufacturing orders.\n* Verify material quantities and research or reconcile discrepancies.\n* Process kit returns and perform cycle counts.\n* Receive incoming materials and verify material information.\n* Learn to identify electronic components and interpret manufacturer part numbers.\n* Maintain accurate inventory transactions and records.\n* Use computer-based inventory and MRP systems.\n* Read bills of material and follow written material and shipping instructions.\n* Prepare labels, packing documentation and finished products for shipment.\n* Use scales, counters, pallet jacks and other appropriate material-handling equipment.\n* Maintain and replenish production floor stock.\n* Support production when material issues or shortages need to be resolved.\n* At more experienced levels, coordinate shipping and receiving activities, establish priorities, communicate with carriers and work with limited supervision.\n\nWho Should Apply\n\nWe want to hear from candidates who fit either of these paths:\n\nExperienced candidates may have worked in electronics manufacturing, manufacturing materials, inventory control, receiving, shipping, kitting, parts, stockroom operations, ERP/MRP systems or a similar environment.\n\nEntry-level candidates may not have direct electronics or material-handling experience but should be dependable, accurate, willing to learn, comfortable following detailed procedures and interested in developing manufacturing skills.\n\nExperience in electronics manufacturing or another disciplined manufacturing environment is especially valuable, but it is not required for every successful candidate.\n\nWhat Matters in This Job\n\nSuccessful Material Handlers need to be able to:\n\n* Work accurately with quantities and part numbers.\n* Stay focused while performing detailed work.\n* Follow written instructions and established procedures.\n* Learn computer-based inventory and manufacturing systems.\n* Communicate when material information or quantities do not match.\n* Work effectively with production and other employees.\n* Safely lift up to 50 pounds when required.\n* Demonstrate dependable attendance and follow-through.\n\nExperience, Skill Level and Pay\n\nSMT maintains defined Material Handler skill levels.\n\nStarting level and compensation are based on relevant prior experience and demonstrated capability.
