As a Slitting Machine Operator and member of the Manufacturing Department Team you will help bring our customers' package labels to life, enabling them to stand out over the competition, and create a customer experience that is second to none. Compensation for Finishing Operator (Slitter) will be based on the skills and experiences you bring to Smyth. Shift available: First Shift: 4am-2:30pm, Monday through Thursday (40 hours) Key Responsibilities Include: Setting up, running, and maintaining a Wide Web (60") Slitting Machine in an efficient and timely manner Carefully and thoroughly inspecting completed label material for errors and defects Identifying, recommending, and implementing areas for lean improvement/modification Performing work based on slitting instructions and priorities assigned by the Manufacturing Department Supervisor. Preparing and maintaining appropriate documentation for assigned slitting tasks Performing preventative maintenance tasks to ensure the reliability of slitting equipment The Ideal Candidate Must Demonstrate: Attention to detail, effective time management, and multi-tasking skills to meet deadlines on multiple long and short-term projects simultaneously Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, as well as read a ruler Self-motivation, being able to work with little supervision at times Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with a diverse group of people and personalities Ability to provide a high level of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization Education, Skills, and Experience: Required: High school diploma or equivalent; computer skills/knowledge Required: Can perform heavy work, lifting up to 100 pounds, frequent pushing and pulling heavy items, often lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 100 pounds Required: Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in the English language Preferred: Ability and willingness to learn and master new skills. A plus: Experience working with lean manufacturing
