You will work closely with our founding CPA to serve an existing client base and support new client onboarding as the firm grows.\nThe ideal candidate is technically sharp, comfortable working independently in a remote environment, and genuinely interested in helping small business owners understand their tax position — not just file a return.\nMust live within a 20 mile radius of Mapleton, UT.\nKey Responsibilities\nTax Preparation\nPrepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals (1040), S-Corporations (1120-S), partnerships (1065), and LLCs\nReview prior-year returns and identify errors, missed elections, or missed opportunities before preparing current-year returns\nManage extension filings and ensure estimated tax payments are calculated accurately and on time\nCoordinate with clients to gather documentation efficiently and with minimal back-and-forth\nReview returns prepared by others for accuracy, completeness, and optimization opportunities\nEnsure proper purchase price allocation and treatment of depreciation, amortization, and asset disposals\nTax Planning\nConduct mid-year and year-end tax planning calls with clients to project liability and identify strategies\nIdentify and implement applicable tax strategies including entity structure, retirement contributions, depreciation elections, accountable plans, PTE elections, and timing of income and deductions\nAnalyze short-term and long-term rental tax treatment and advise accordingly\nSupport S-Corp reasonable compensation analysis and documentation\nAssist with tax planning for business acquisitions, sales, and ownership transitions\nResearch tax issues and document positions clearly for client files\nAccounting & Client Support\nPerform bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations accurately and on schedule\nReview, maintain, and correct charts of accounts ensuring proper classification and GAAP alignment\nPrepare, review, and correct financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements\nSupport month-end and year-end closing procedures including accrual entries and adjusting journal entries\nWork with clients professionally to request missing information, clarify transactions, and communicate findings\nMaintain organized documentation and follow internal workflows and best practices\nRequired Qualifications\nActive CPA license in good standing — required\n5+ years of hands-on tax preparation experience across individual and business returns\nDemonstrated experience with tax planning and proactive client advisory work\nStrong command of federal and state tax law including recent changes\nExperience preparing 1040, 1120-S, 1065, and related schedules\nStrong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, and adjusting entries\nProven ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously and meet deadlines\nBachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field\nHigh level of accuracy, confidentiality, and professional judgment\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills — able to explain tax concepts clearly to non-accountants\nComfortable working independently in a remote environment with minimal oversight\nPreferred Skills\nExperience with QuickBooks Online, ProSeries or ProConnect\nFamiliarity with S-Corp reasonable compensation, accountable plans, and entity structuring\nExperience advising on real estate taxation including short-term and long-term rental strategies\nStrong problem-solving instincts — able to identify what is wrong and fix it, not just report it\nInterest in growing into a broader advisory and client-facing role over time\nPosition Details\nPosition Type\nPart-time employee with path to full-time based on firm growth and performance\nLocation\nHybrid — flexible scheduling with availability during core business hours\nExperience\n5+ years of tax and accounting experience; active CPA license required\nCompensation\nCompetitive — commensurate with experience, qualifications, and hours\nReports To\nFounding CPA / Principal\nWhy Rise?\nWe are a boutique firm where your work matters and your expertise is respected.
