Location:California (Required)Bilingual English/Spanish (Required)Full-time (Required)Work Location: Remote: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per yearJob description:Position Overview: The HR Manager plays a critical role in supporting our leadership team in driving strategic human resources initiatives that align with our mission of delivering inclusive, high-quality, extracurricular activities & lessons. The HR Manager will support the payroll department with process development in determining accurate timekeeping, timely payroll processing, and smooth onboarding and offboarding experiences. The HR Manager serves as a subject-matter expert in employee relations, performance management, talent acquisition, compensation practices, leaves administration, and workplace safety.We’re looking for someone who is proactive, highly organized, and confident juggling multiple responsibilities, from confirming training, conducting background checks and I-9 verification meetings, to supporting employee questions and handling sensitive information with discretion.Principal Responsibilities:Provides guidance to employees on the interpretation of all policies, procedures, and guidelines.Supports Leadership administratively with preparation of all documents, employee files, and conducts HR related functions as part of the entire employee life cycle that fosters positive employee relations (i.e., onboarding, employee experience, terminations, leave of absence, etc.).Leads the onboarding process is complete and in compliance with Company guidelines.Supports Leadership with employee relations investigations administratively when necessary. i.e., note taking, collecting data, etc.Ensures proper maintenance of confidential employee information and employee records. Ensures timely and accurate entries into employee databases.Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including CA-specific requirements (e.g., Wage Order compliance, meal/rest break rules, pay transparency rules, required postings, mandatory training such as AB 1825/2053 harassment prevention).Maintain and update employee handbook, HR policies, and procedures to reflect evolving California legislation.Prepare and submit required reportsAssist with compensation benchmarking, wage decisions, and compliance with CA wage-and-hour regulations, including overtime rules and minimum wage updates.Support benefits administration, open enrollment, and employee inquiries.Maintain accurate employee records within the HRIS, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.Coordinate mandatory state training requirements and track completion.Partner with leadership to design and implement professional development programs.Provide coaching and training to team members on HR procedures, compliance topics, and best practices.Support the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and California OSHA compliance.Assist with workers’ compensation claims reporting, communication, and return-to-work programs.Participate in safety audits and initiatives to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.Administer leaves of absence in alignment with FMLA, CFRA, Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL), Paid Sick Leave, and other CA-specific leave entitlements.Coordinate with employees, managers, and third-party administrators to ensure proper documentation and communication.Oversee interactive process meetings and reasonable accommodation requests under ADA/FEHA.Act as Custodian of Records for DOJ / FBI livescan background checks and ensure consistent compliance with applicable rules and regulations.Act as Program Administrator for eVerify+ and other federally mandated verification platforms.Qualifications:5+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in an HR generalist or HR management role.Demonstrated expertise in California employment laws and regulations.Experience managing employee relations issues and conducting investigations.Knowledge of leave laws including CFRA, PDL, FMLA, and ADA/FEHA accommodations.Strong interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills.HR certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).Experience in multi-state complianceBackground supporting safety programs or workers’ compensation administration.Bilingual (e.g., English/Spanish)Able to prioritize and complete multiple, diverse work assignments with minimal direction and supervision.Detail oriented with a focus on quality results/deliverables.High ability to thrive and handle multiple priorities under tight timeframes.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.Customer focused, both internally and externally.Highest level of integrity and ability to keep information confidential.Strong computer (i.e., Google Sheets, Salesforce, CRM,) and data analytical skills, for the purposes of data entry and report creation and maintenance.HRIS experience is a plus (not required)Able to attain COR status for DOJ / FBI background checks.The statements used herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of the work being performed by an employee in this position, and are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties and skills required by an incumbent so classified.
