Posting DetailsPosition InformationWorking TitleGrant Senior AccountantDepartmentComptroller - Grants & Contract MgtCompensation TitleSenior AccountantPosition Number30000070Position StatusRegularWork ScheduleMonday - Friday 8:15 - 4:30Hours per Week37.5Months per Year12Purpose of PositionProvide advanced accounting and financial reporting support for grants, contracts, and restricted funds, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and effective stewardship of sponsored resources.Primary ResponsibilitiesPrepare and review internal and external financial reports and invoices by analyzing data from multiple financial systemsPerform grant and general ledger account reconciliations to ensure accurate and compliant financial reportingPrepare and review routine and non-routine journal entries, budget entries, and adjustments for grants and related accountsServe as a primary accounting resource for principal investigators and departmental administrators, providing guidance on routine grant-related questions and resolving issuesReview grant expenditures (including purchasing, travel, and procurement card transactions) for compliance with grant terms, University policies, and proper account codingResearch, resolve, and correct transaction and posting errors across multiple systemsSupport grant and contract closeout activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial resolutionPrepare documentation and respond to internal and external audit requests related to grants and sponsored programsAssist with grant training workshops and contribute to user education effortsPrepare special financial analyses and reports as requested by leadershipIdentify opportunities for process improvements related to grant accounting, reporting, and internal controlsPerform other related duties consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position QualificationsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in AccountingMinimum of 2-3 years of progressively responsible accounting experienceDemonstrated experience with grant or restricted fund accounting, including financial reporting, reconciliation, and compliance reviewStrong working knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting principlesExperience preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reportsAbility to analyze financial data from multiple sources, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues independentlyExperience working with enterprise financial systems and reporting toolsStrong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholdersHigh attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlinesPreferred QualificationsExperience in higher education, research administration, government, or sponsored programs accountingKnowledge of federal and non-federal grant regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance)Experience supporting internal and external auditsExperience working directly with principal investigators or departmental administratorsDemonstrated ability to recommend or implement process improvements related to financial controls or reportingMinimum EducationBachelor's DegreePreferred EducationMinimum Experience2 yearsSalaryPay GradeS72Posting Detail InformationRequisition Number2026S2339Job Open Date05/20/2026Job Close DateQuick Linkhttps://jobs.nku.edu/postings/15535
