The ideal candidate is naturally curious, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and is comfortable moving between design work, field environments, vendor coordination, and rapid prototyping efforts.\n\nResearch and Development Engineer Responsibilities\n\nLead and support R&D initiatives focused on thermal systems, controls, mechanical components and related energy technologies\n\nDesign, prototype, test, and refine mechanical systems, instrumentation, tools and equipment for real‑world field applications\n\nDevelop structured test plans, instrumentation strategies and data‑collection methodologies to validate system performance and design assumptions\n\nPerform modeling and analysis related to thermal, fluid, mechanical and energy system performance\n\nCollaborate closely with engineering, geology, field operations and leadership teams to support ongoing product and technology development\n\nSupport field installations, commissioning activities, troubleshooting efforts and system performance evaluations\n\nCoordinate with external machining, fabrication and prototyping vendors to support development efforts\n\nMaintain technical documentation including research findings, test results, engineering recommendations and design revisions\n\nSupport continuous improvement efforts related to commercialization, manufacturability, scalability and operational performance\n\nParticipate in technical discussions, presentations and cross‑functional problem‑solving initiatives\n\nResearch and Development Engineer Qualifications\n\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Energy Systems, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related technical field\n\n5–10+ years of hands‑on engineering, R&D, product development or prototyping experience\n\nStrong CAD and design experience using SolidWorks or similar platforms\n\nExperience with modeling and data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python or related environments\n\nStrong hands‑on prototyping, testing, troubleshooting and experimental engineering capabilities\n\nAbility to move projects from concept through prototype and toward commercialization\n\nComfortable working in startup‑style, fast‑paced, highly collaborative technical environments\n\nStrong problem‑solving, analytical and organizational skills\n\nAbility to work both independently and cross‑functionally across technical disciplines\n\nPreferred Experience\n\nHVAC equipment, geothermal or thermal systems or renewable energy technologies\n\nNiagara controls or building automation systems exposure\n\nEnergy modeling tools such as EnergyPlus\n\nInstrumentation, sensors, data‑acquisition systems and field testing environments\n\nVendor management and prototype sourcing coordination\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) licensure or progress toward licensure\n\nExperience leading or mentoring engineering teams and technical initiatives\n\nCompensation & Benefits\n\nBase salary: $150,000–$180,000 depending on experience\n\nBonus potential and equity/stock option eligibility\n\nComprehensive medical, dental and vision benefits\n\nHybrid work flexibility\n\nPTO and paid holidays\n\nProfessional development and growth opportunities\n\nCollaborative engineering‑focused culture with strong innovation emphasis\n\nKonik is an equal opportunity employer.
