TITLE: Music Therapist
REPORTS TO: Residential Program Director
SUMMARY OF OCCUPATION:
The Music Therapist is an hourly, non-exempt position of a staff that addresses physical, emotional, cognitive, social needs through the therapeutic use of music. They are responsible for planning and implementing one-on-one and or group music therapy sessions with individuals in the music therapy program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work in liaison with residential management team to acquire the names of the individuals in the music therapy program.
Independently plan and facilitate therapy groups, document individual’s progress and attend meetings.
Initial assessment with the individual to evaluate their likes, needs and abilities in regards to music therapy.
Responsible for collecting and documenting post music therapy behavior to gauge performance effectiveness.
Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of individual’s progress, including session notes, treatment plans, assessments in accordance to regulations.
Establishing a trusting and therapeutic relationship with individuals, fostering a safe and supportive environment for musical expression.
Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the individuals in their supervision.
Communicate to management concerns that require additional or immediate attention pertaining to health and safety of individuals in their therapy program.
Must be able to resolve complex conflicts, think creatively and have sound judgement.
Must be able to actively engage and assist individuals to participate in the music therapy session based on individual’s preference, capabilities and interests.
Plan, maintain, and provide to their manager a monthly calendar of musical activities and opportunities for the individuals in their group.
Attend and participate in all training sessions, staff meetings, and other events as needed.
Ensures compliance to federal, state and local licensing and accreditation regulations.
Has an acute awareness/knowledge of all Brian’s House policies and procedures.
Required to Travel to residential sites/other locations for the therapy sessions as needed
Maintains a safe environment for individuals by demonstrating knowledge of safety issues and proper use of equipment and supplies
Performs other designated duties as assigned by manager(s).
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapist (CBMT) required
Must be 18 years of age
Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy (or higher) or any other directly related field required
Experience working with individuals with physical and intellectual developmental disabilities (preferred)
At least 1 year experience as music therapist (required).
Current and valid driver’s license with clean driving record and reliable transportation
Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, be agile, physically pursue clients on foot, physically restrain, bend, squat, stretch, reach, push up and stand for several hours at a time.
Able to read, write, follow verbal and written directions, prepare written and electronic reports on a daily basis, complete written and electronic forms in English.
Must be able to verbally communicate in English and guide individuals, respond to individual’s needs.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
TRAVEL: Some travel required for the role to different residential sites and/or locations
SCHEDULE: flexible schedule that may include weekends and evenings
