Our parents are active partners; frequently engaging through school events, restorative practices, and academic support.Position SummaryThe Behavior/SEL Lead is responsible for ensuring that all students are receiving the socio-emotional services that meet each student’s identified and targeted needs. The leader establishes effective communication and accountability structures, manages student behavior challenges, monitors the Multi-Tier System of Supports (SST Team), coordinates with outside service providers and interns as needed, and will assist in leading Social Emotional Learning professional development throughout the school year. This leader will be responsible for responding to behavioral needs and incidents. They will need to be skilled in community, restorative, and reentry circles; defining and applying logical consequences; maintaining documentation and creating thorough structures for communication with families, teachers, and admin partners. Your responsibilities might be revised based on school need or additional opportunities/needs that arise, or aligned to individual development goals.Essential Job Functions:SEL LeadershipAcquire deep understanding of Caliber’s approach to developing students’ academic and socio emotional competence in order to support and further develop our program in a way that is culturally syntonic with school’s mission and philosophyModel best SEL and restorative justice practices for staff and the larger Caliber communityAssist students, staff, families and other members of the admin team in the creation of responses to behavior that align with Restorative Justice PracticesSupport the implementation of restorative practices, such as guiding students through restorative justice circles and logical consequences (e.g., apology letters, reflection/practice, wellness project, etc.) that they have identified in partner with staff/peers.Coach or advise teachers to effectively address the needs of our studentsSystemsInternalize school-wide positive behavior integrated support plan (PBIS) to address student mental health, wellness, and socioemotional needs at multiple levels.Create, manage, and monitor the school success team processSupport staff on the SEL infrastructure and coach staff on implementationOversee system for early identification, response, and referrals for vulnerable studentsCoordinate with outside agencies related to mental healthWork with Director of SPED on Tier 2 + 3 behavior interventionOversee student trauma intervention and practicesCollaborate with staff members to implement school-wide positive behavior support plan.School CultureSupport school team in developing a school wide vision for staff and student culture and SELManage school culture initiatives and eventsPartner with the community and work with the leadership team to discuss whole-school staff issues, such as school climate, staff self-care, and retention of teachersCreate long-term plans around student supportConduct data analysis to assess successes and gaps of school culture and student support on a monthly basisStaff TrainingSupport the training of incoming staff on all components of our SEL program and developmentally appropriate learning ready behaviors for students across grade levels (circle implementation, vision around restorative practices, PBIS, etc.)Work closely with Leadership Team to develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designsFamily RelationshipsCommunicate regularly with parents and care providers to promote generalization of skills to the home environment.Build trusting relationships with students and families that support long-term work with these stakeholdersEvaluate incoming student/family needs and create family and community partnershipsWorking Conditions:Environment:This job operates in a school/classroom environment. The position is primarily located at a school site with outside supervision and some district office visits.
