Senior Acoustics Engineer

Senior Acoustics EngineerAbout the TeamWe are working with a key player working on robotics and automation to transform last-mile logistics. This team is building fast, efficient, and reliable aerial delivery systems, combining advanced robotics, aviation engineering, and operational innovation to bring autonomous drone delivery to market at scale. About the RoleWe are partnering with a high-growth technology company on their search for a Senior Acoustics Engineer to lead noise prediction, measurement, and mitigation efforts for their drone delivery platform. Community noise is a critical factor in the scalability of urban and suburban drone delivery, and this role will directly impact the company's ability to operate in residential areas. You will develop noise models, conduct acoustic testing, and collaborate with propulsion and aerodynamics teams to reduce the acoustic signature of the vehicle. You’re Excited About This Opportunity Because You Will…Develop and validate computational noise prediction models for rotor tonal and broadband noise sources, including thickness noise, loading noise, and turbulent boundary layer interactions.Design and execute acoustic measurement campaigns, ground-based and in-flight, to characterize vehicle noise signatures across operating conditions.Conduct trade studies on propeller design, tip speed, blade count, and motor RPM scheduling to minimize community noise while maintaining propulsion performance.Collaborate with the aerodynamics and propulsion teams to assess the acoustic impact of design changes and develop noise-optimized flight profiles.Develop noise footprint models and tools to support operational planning, route optimization, and regulatory compliance for urban and suburban delivery operations.Stay current with evolving regulatory frameworks (FAA, EASA) and community noise standards relevant to UAS and advanced air mobility operations.Present acoustic analysis results and noise reduction recommendations to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. We’re Excited About You Because…A degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; advanced degree in aeroacoustics preferred.5+ years of experience in acoustic analysis, noise prediction, or noise testing for rotorcraft, propellers, UAS, or eVTOL aircraft.Strong background in aeroacoustic theory including Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings methods, Amiet’s theory, or equivalent prediction methodologies.Experience with acoustic measurement instrumentation (microphone arrays, sound level meters, anechoic facilities) and data acquisition systems.Proficiency with acoustic simulation tools (e.g., PSU-WOPWOP, ANOPP, custom codes) and/or commercial CFD-acoustics coupling (e.g., Actran, STAR-CCM+ broadband noise models).Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or similar for signal processing, spectral analysis, and data visualization.Familiarity with FAA/EASA noise certification standards and community noise metrics (DNL, SEL, Lmax).Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey acoustic concepts to non-specialist audiences.
