Accounts Payable Specialist
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the company's accounts payable processes, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards such as GAAP. This role requires a strong understanding of financial concepts, accounting software, and payroll management systems. The successful applicant will play a vital role in supporting our financial operations, including data entry, account reconciliation, and vendor management.
Duties
Process and verify invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports using accounting software such as QuickBooks.
Perform account reconciliations to ensure accuracy of accounts payable records.
Prepare and record journal entries related to accounts payable transactions.
Ensure compliance with SOX controls and internal policies during invoice processing and approvals.
Manage vendor relationships and resolve discrepancies or payment issues efficiently.
Assist with month-end closing activities related to accounts payable and general ledger reconciliation.
Support payroll management tasks including benefits administration and benefits reconciliation.
Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions in accordance with GAAP standards.
Conduct data entry with high accuracy using 10 key typing skills for large volumes of transactions.
Collaborate with the finance team on projects involving governmental accounting, non-profit accounting, or corporate accounting as needed.
Skills
Strong knowledge of accounting principles including GAAP and double entry bookkeeping.
Experience with various financial software such as QuickBooks, PeopleSoft, Kronos, Ceridian, Sage, or similar platforms.
Familiarity with payroll systems like ADP or Paychex for payroll management and benefits administration.
Proficiency in account reconciliation, journal entries, general ledger accounting, and analysis skills.
Understanding of tax regulations and experience with governmental or non-profit accounting is a plus.
Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy (10 key typing).
Ability to interpret financial concepts related to accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger activities.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
Knowledge of internal controls such as SOX compliance is preferred.
