This role focuses on maintaining and enhancing our industry‑leading power systems simulation product, PSS®E, through detailed software engineering practices, agile development, and robust test planning.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nCreate mathematical algorithms for power systems simulation and optimization.\n\nWork with the Grid Simulation software development team on designing, developing, testing, and documenting software using modern methodologies and tools such as the Scaled Agile Framework, Jira, Confluence, and Git.\n\nImplement predominantly in C, C++ and Fortran, applying object‑oriented and functional programming techniques to accelerate simulations.\n\nCreate robust tests to assess performance, correctness, and usability.\n\nProvide estimates and analysis of tasks required for development.\n\nStay abreast of new developments in power system analysis, modeling, and optimization.\n\nQualifications\n\nEducation: Bachelor of Science or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, or similar field with knowledge of mathematical optimization and software engineering.\n\nProven strong abilities in software development and a commitment to robust code.\n\nExperience developing in Fortran, C, or C++ required; Python is a strong plus.\n\nCandidates must meet one of the following experience pathways:\n\nBachelor’s degree with 2+ years of professional software development experience.\n\nGraduate degree with hands‑on academic coding experience.\n\nCompletion of a Siemens software development internship.\n\nAbility to travel up to 10 %.\n\nExperience developing on the Microsoft Windows operating system.\n\nFamiliarity with automated software build processes and environments.\n\nExperience using Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.\n\nExperience using git for source code control, preferably Gitlab.\n\nGood communication and presentation skills in English – written and verbal.\n\nStrong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.\n\nCollaborative teammate with good interpersonal skills.\n\nAbility to work independently and manage time effectively.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nExperience programming for the electric power systems domain.\n\nFamiliarity with electric power systems planning and simulation tools.\n\nExperience with machine learning, workflow automation, and large language models, using tools such as PyTorch.\n\nExperience with large code bases for engineering tools.\n\nDemonstrated experience delivering projects that bring value for customers.\n\nExperience working in the Power Systems industry, at a utility, vendor, or regulator.\n\nBenefits\nSiemens offers a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees.
