Making that moat real outside the desktop app — for collaborative review, on-set metadata capture, and AI-native workflows — is what this role does.\n\nThe clearest example: Wiz-Live, our concept for collapsing the gap between production and post. Traditional film sets \"slate\" every take — a clapboard synced to timecode — so editorial, sound, and VFX can recover critical metadata after the fact (scene, take, camera, lens, who's who). It's valuable but slow, so many productions, including our own sister company Story, skip it. Wiz-Live's bet: link the shotlist directly to camera and computer at the moment of the take, so metadata is captured and attached automatically — with local inference (object detection, character tagging, ASR, proxying) layered on top. Done right, footage could be edited essentially as it's shot, with a rough assembly — director's favorite takes flagged — ready before the crew wraps for the day.\n\nNone of that works without a schema and pipeline that can take heterogeneous, high-frequency, on-set metadata and reliably link it to the right clip, in real time, in a way both editors and Wizard's AI can query later. That's this role.\n\nAbout the role\n\nFull-stack web engineer with database depth. Owns the web platform end-to-end: API design, schema, query performance, deploy. You'll build the collaborative layer on top of Wizard's primitives — a Frame.io-and-Figma hybrid: lightweight, collaborative editing and review tools built on the Wiz CLI the core team is already shipping.\n\nWhat you'll do\n\nFuture roadmap this role feeds\n\nPlugins marketplace\n\nEditor client marketplace\n\nFar future: a chat-based app\n\nWhat you bring\n\nRequired\n\nTypeScript\n\nPostgres (or comparable RDBMS)\n\nAPI design (REST or GraphQL)\n\nModern web framework (Next.js, Remix, etc.)\n\nCI/CD comfort\n\nShow us what you can do\n\nNice to have\n\nRealtime infra (websockets, pub/sub)\n\nVector DB\n\nML data pipelines\n\nn8n or workflow tooling\n\nAbout Wizard\n\nEvery so often, a new technology redefines how stories get told: the printing press, the telephone, radio, the film camera, the cutting room, television, the digital camera, non-linear editing. We think we're at the start of the next one, and we intend to build the company that defines it.\n\nWizard is the AI-native platform for creative work, starting with the hardest creative workflow: professional video. In roughly six months, our team built a native C++ editor and a headless media runtime that humans, agents, and developers all operate. Oz, our agent, ingests footage at roughly 300× real time and edits at 30–60× real time, and every change it makes stays inspectable, editable, and reversible.\n\nOur philosophy is creative as code: every decision editable, controllable, composable, never generative slop you regenerate and hope for the best. Controllability over convenience. Artist integrity over automation. Taste over throughput.\n\nOur sister company is Story, a production company making video for frontier AI labs and deep-tech companies. We work closely with them: Story is our first customer and in-house design partner, and its editors cut real client work on Wizard every day.\n\nOur team comes from Industrial Light & Magic, Netflix, Apple, Epic Games, Lucasfilm, Blizzard, and 2K.
