This role supports cloud-based public safety software by optimizing MySQL environments, troubleshooting production issues, collaborating with engineering teams, and automating database operations. The position plays a critical role in maintaining the availability and effectiveness of technology used by first responders.Responsibilities:• Monitor database performance and establish alerts to identify and prevent potential customer impact.• Optimize MySQL configurations to improve reliability, performance, and scalability.• Analyze and improve query performance using execution plans, indexing, and other optimization techniques.• Collaborate with software engineers to improve database schemas, query patterns, and application performance.• Diagnose and resolve production database issues while developing long-term solutions to prevent recurrence.• Automate routine database maintenance, monitoring, and operational tasks.• Review capacity, utilization, and performance trends to plan scaling and infrastructure improvements.• Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and configuration changes.• Strengthen backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes and procedures.• Develop and maintain database documentation, operational runbooks, and best practices.• Support engineering teams with database architecture and operational guidance.• Mentor and support junior team members as needed.Requirements:• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience administering MySQL or similar production database systems.• Proficiency with cloud environments and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.• Strong understanding of database administration, automated testing, and Agile development methodologies.• Experience designing and supporting infrastructure for complex cloud-based applications, preferably within AWS.• Knowledge of AWS RDS, Amazon Aurora, or Azure Database services preferred.• Familiarity with microservices architectures and distributed application environments.• Strong troubleshooting, performance optimization, and problem-solving skills.• Ability to support and mentor junior team members.• Strong collaboration skills and willingness to contribute beyond core responsibilities.• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving technology environment.Pay Range and Compensation Package:• Target annual base salary range: $140,000–$180,000.• Eligibility for a performance-based bonus.• Company stock options.Equal Opportunity Statement: Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
