Duties will involve working both independently and as part of a highly integrated team performing a variety of systems engineering and integration tasks related to the design, development, test, evaluation, and operation of liquid engine systems used on the SLS launch vehicle.\nPrimary duties for the SLS Core Stage Engine Systems Engineer would include:\nSupport hot-fire testing of the RS-25 and other liquid rocket engines.\nReview pre-test predictions and post-test data, conduct anomaly investigations, prepare and coordinate engine system and subsystem data review contents and presentations.\nCoordinate, develop, and present technical materials related to engine system performance, testing and integration to support design milestone reviews and anomaly investigations.\nDevelop and execute engine system performance analysis models to support system test, vehicle integration, and design development activities.\nDevelop test data assessment computer utilities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the evaluation process.\nPrepare reports and technical assessments in areas of liquid propulsion systems and performance.\nAttend technical interchange, project planning, design review, and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, resolution and verification activities. Identify issues, pursue resolutions, and support analyses. Complete assigned action items. Assess requirements and implement risk management processes.\nDocument and maintain test and data analysis processes in written work instructions.\nTranslate higher level requirements into lower level functional requirements and design options. Conduct assessments to determine optimal and feasible design solutions.\nIdentify and document customer objectives and product requirements.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\nMust be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.\nQualifications - External\nMinimum education requirements are a BS degree from an ABET accredited institution in Aerospace Engineering or related field with at least 5 years of experience.\nFamiliarity with liquid rocket engine propulsion systems via coursework or work experience is highly desired.\nPrevious experience with the RS-25 (Space Shuttle Main Engine) and liquid rocket vehicle integration are strong pluses.\nExperience with testing, data acquisition and data analyses and vehicle-engine integration is highly desired.\nExhibited capability to plan and perform systems engineering and analysis tasks independently and as part of a team.\nWillingness and ability to learn new skills and flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing requirements is mandatory.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Power-Point, Excel, and Word is required.\nExperience using computer programming to efficiently solve engineering problems is required. Python, FORTRAN, VBA, MATLAB, C++, and agile software development practices are highly desirable.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills are required.\nIndividual must be highly motivated, flexible and willing to shift focus areas to meet volatile customer requirements.\nEssential Functions\nWork Environment:\nOffice environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).\nPhysical Requirements:\nRequires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%).
