Mechanical Superintendent
TrinityRail Maintenance Services is currently seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Mechanical Superintendent at our Shell Rock, Iowa railcar facility.

The Mechanical Shop Superintendent holds a pivotal role as a key leader within our plant. This position involves the oversight of the mechanical repair and welding team within the facility, in addition to contributing to the development of our long-term operational strategy.
What you'll do:
Lead the training and onboarding processes for new team members
Efficiently schedule and assigning work duties
Proactively address operational challenges
Manage production and ensure adherence to high standards of safety, quality, and production output
Lead the Mechanical Building (BLDG 2) Operations
Responsible the mechanical inspection and repair of rail cars brought in for routine and non-routine maintenance
Manage and direct the activities of supervisors and the production operations team
Ensure employees are trained and properly certified for the work they perform
Works with all functional departments in the implementation of continuous improvement activities associated with the manufacturing operations
Demonstrate strong mentoring skills for coaching and developing supervision staff as well as hourly personnel
Responsible for the Environmental Health and Safety of employees inside of the mechanical building engaged in downstream activities/examples:
Confined space entry
Crane operations
Welding gouging and grinding
Certifying cars mechanical repaired to customer and regulatory standards
Ensure responsible waste disposal
Responsible for the Quality of mechanical repairs and adhering to Trinity and customer cleaning specifications and requirements
Responsible for mechanical team’s labor efficiency, and financial results of mechanical repair operations
Set production schedules based on commodity, efficiency, staffing resources, and volume required to meet the demand of overall plant production
Responsible for capturing all the additional mechanical repairs made on the railcar
Responsible for managing operational costs for the mechanical building
Responsible to align mechanical operations throughput to the downstream needs of the Shell Rock plant – mechanical and overall plant monthly car demands
Coordinate workload according to completion schedules
Serve as member of the Site Leadership Team with responsibility to deliver on financial performance, strategic and tactical business objectives and the positive work culture of the site
What you'll bring:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Technology preferred or 5+ years of relevant experience
5+ years of applicable Manufacturing Management experience
5+ years of experience in metal fabrication and manufacturing environment
Experience, knowledge or training of Lean Manufacturing methodologies with actual implementation background
Experience managing mechanical repairs on tanks, railcars, or similar vessels is required
Must have people management experience; ability to supervise and interface effectively with employees of all levels
Experience managing operational expenses for department that ensures good stewardship of company resources to achieve business objectives.
Confined space entry management experience required
Knowledge of operations or the ability to acquire it quickly
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to effectively plan work procedures, equipment, material and manpower needs
Ability to effectively build and lead a productive work group as well as to perform as a member of the management team
Must have Excel and Microsoft Office experience
