{"schemaVersion":"jobsearcher.job.v1","id":"bfe587a26c80cfb4bc5fdecc","url":"https://jobsearcher.com/jobs/bfe587a26c80cfb4bc5fdecc","canonicalUrl":"https://jobsearcher.com/jobs/bfe587a26c80cfb4bc5fdecc","title":"Controller - Construction","description":"MES Mining has an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional to fill the Controller role, with primary responsibility for all accounting, and bookkeeping aspects of the company group.\nMES is a design/build underground mine and tunnel construction and engineering company with affiliated entities within the company group engaged in equipment sales and leasing, and real estate.\nThe successful candidate will be capable of implementing analytical decision-making in the business; and proactively finding opportunities and recommending ideas for increased profitability and must possess strong leadership qualities.\nACCOUNTING & FINANCE RESPONSIBILITIES.\nCommunicates routinely with General Manager, Business Services Manager, Shop and Project Managers on a variety of topics including bonding, insurance, job costs, cost tracking, spending patterns, and contractual agreements.\nTimely and Accurate preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.\nPrepare special reports/budgets by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.\nWork with outside accounting firms on annual audits and tax returns for multiple entities.\nManage company and project cash flow and investments of excess cash.\nOverall responsibility for AP, AR, Payroll, and all other bookkeeping functions.\nMonitor phased project costs and variance to budget/bid.\nTimely handling of Property, Sales and Use and other operational taxes.\nAssist outside CPAs with preparation of income tax returns for company entities.\nMaintain accurate cross billings and payments, and overhead allocation between affiliates.\nDevelop written accounting procedures for the operations staff and work with team to ensure proper implementation and compliance.\nChange orders, task orders and amendments, AIA or similar progress payment applications, etc.\nAccurate costing of labor, indirects, overhead, materials, supplies, equipment, etc. to contracting, consulting projects, and equipment repair and maintenance work orders.\nSupervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality work and professional development.\nSTRATEGIC INITIATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:\nContinuous improvement of accounting and related administrative procedures and operations.\nDevelop and maintain relationships with key partners including clients, banks, bonding companies, etc.\nEvaluate options for transition to higher level accounting / ERP systems for equipment and contracting divisions of the company group and implement as required.\nParticipate in the formation and implementation of company financial plans and evolving business structure.\nDESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:\nMust be a highly organized leader with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting and/or Finance, Master’s Degree preferred.\n10+ years of progressive accounting experience in a strong job costing environment.\nUnderstanding of basic business law, interpretation and negotiation of commercial contracts and agreements, insurance policies, bonding, etc.\nStrong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations with thorough expertise in US GAAP.\nDCAA or similar government contract audit experience and knowledge is a plus.\nPrevious Mining Contracting, Construction Management, General Contracting, Consulting Engineering or Specialty Subcontractor industry experience strongly preferred.\nCertified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant credentials are preferred..\nGeneral Responsibilities expected of all MES employees include:\nMaintain accurate daily records of work performed and client/vendor/subcontractor communications. Maintain a valid driver’s license with good driving record. Ability to punctually work scheduled hours with regular attendance. Communicate honestly with management, co-workers, clients and others having interaction with our company. Accept supervision and direction from management and comply with company policies. Be able to get along with others in workplace. Looks out for company’s best interest when making decisions. Approaches work with sense of urgency and positive energy. Treats others with respect, sets a positive tone, and demonstrates patience and calmness when handling adversity.\nOther information\nThis is a full time, salaried position, generally 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Work environment is casual. We offer competitive salary, Paid Time Off and company subsidized health, dental and vision insurance.\nPrimarily work is in an office environment, located at the company main office in Sandy, UT. The candidate filling this position will be expected to travel approximately 20% of the time, or as needed, to company affiliates and project sites in the western US. Occasional weekend or evening work may be required. Occasional visits to project jobsites or shop facilities is required.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language are required.
