You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing the software that enables reliable, low-latency peer-to-peer communication between devices—even when they're completely offline. Your work will directly impact millions of data sync operations happening across our customers' distributed systems.\r\nResponsibilities\r\nDesign and implement robust Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) solutions in C++/C/Kotlin for iOS and Android platforms. Handle complex connection states, manage central and peripheral roles, and ensure low-latency, high-throughput performance.\r\nImplement new Bluetooth profiles and features that expand Ditto's connectivity options. Work on advertising strategies, scanning optimization, and connection management to maximize device discovery and pairing success across diverse environments.\r\nBuild sophisticated error handling and recovery mechanisms that gracefully manage Bluetooth's inherent unreliability. Handle edge cases, interference patterns, and device-model quirks in production.\r\nTune performance across multiple dimensions—latency, throughput, connection stability, and power efficiency—by profiling code, identifying bottlenecks, and making architectural decisions that balance competing constraints.\r\nDevelop automated testing frameworks (primarily Python-based) that validate Bluetooth performance across diverse device types, OS versions, and real-world scenarios. Build tools that provide confidence in every release.\r\nCollaborate closely with mobile app developers, platform engineers, and product teams to integrate Bluetooth seamlessly with other transport layers (Wi-Fi Direct, LAN) and ensure a unified sync experience.\r\nQualifications\r\n7+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3–4 years focused on Bluetooth development.\r\nDeep expertise in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocols, profiles, and the Bluetooth Core Specification.\r\nStrong proficiency in C++/C and experience with mobile development in Kotlin (Android) and/or Swift/Objective-C (iOS).\r\nExperience with Rust or strong willingness to learn and work in a Rust environment.\r\nProven track record of shipping production Bluetooth features in mobile applications.\r\nExperience debugging complex connectivity issues across diverse device ecosystems.\r\nStrong understanding of networking fundamentals, state machines, and asynchronous programming.\r\nAbility to write clean, maintainable code with comprehensive test coverage.\r\nGreat-to-Haves\r\nProduction experience with Rust in systems programming or networking contexts.\r\nExperience with Bluetooth Mesh or other mesh networking protocols.\r\nBackground in distributed systems or peer-to-peer networking.\r\nFamiliarity with other local transport protocols (Wi-Fi Direct, NFC, etc.).\r\nPython scripting for test automation and tooling.\r\nExperience with performance profiling and optimization on mobile platforms.\r\nOpen source contributions to Bluetooth-related projects.\r\nKnowledge of embedded systems or IoT device development.\r\nBenefits\r\nWe offer competitive salaries and meaningful equity.
