The role spans the full testing lifecycle - from planning and instrumentation setup through execution, data analysis, and results communication - while ensuring the readiness, calibration, and reliable operation of the test laboratory and supporting equipment. The engineer will also design and integrate new measurement methods and instrumentation, including the associated calibration and system validation work, and will collaborate with development, engineering, and commercial teams to deliver test results that directly inform product and system design decisions.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nCustomer Interaction: Understand internal and external customer requirements and develop design proposals using Corning products.\nTest Planning & Development: Stay current with relevant industry standards, regulations, and measurement requirements. Develop and execute product and system evaluation tests, define testing approaches, and generate tools, processes, and test sequences to repeatedly measure key product characteristics.\nTest Infrastructure: Take ownership of the overall condition, readiness, and functionality of the testing laboratory environment. Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate complex testing instruments to ensure reliable, repeatable results, and support safe work practices throughout lab and field operations.\nTest Execution: Operate project-specific test equipment. Execute in-lab or real-world, in-field testing programs. Troubleshoot testing and infrastructure issues in real time and provide prompt feedback to steer projects in the right direction.\nData Analysis: Analyze raw test data and product characterization results, ensuring data integrity and consistency. Verify observations against first principles and physical models, make critical observations that inform project direction, and summarize findings in clear reports and presentations for internal and customer audiences.\n\nWork Schedule and Travel:\n\nTravel up to 20–25%, for 1–2 weeks at a time, mostly across North America.\nFlexibility to work occasionally early mornings, nights, and weekends when testing schedules require.\n\nRequired Skills and Education:\n\nBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.\n2–3+ years of experience in experimental testing, and data analysis.\nAbility to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate complex technical instruments and diagnostic/testing equipment.\nRigorous approach to experimental planning, execution, and data analysis.\nProficiency in data analysis and management, with experience using Excel and advanced analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, JMP, Tableau).\nExcellent communication skills, including comfort interfacing with third-party vendors and customers.\nSelf-motivated and comfortable taking ownership of equipment and testing operations with minimal supervision.\n\nDesired Skills:\n\nHands-on experience with designing and conducting experiments, and instrumentation handling (operation, calibration, troubleshooting, optimization).\nGood understanding of thermal and chemical engineering fundamentals (fluid flow/hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, kinetics, reactions, or mechanics of materials), will consider internship project experience.\nMaster's degree of PHD degree is a plus with no working experince, will consider internship experince.\nExperience with data acquisition systems, telemetry, and large dataset handling using statistical tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab, Tableau).\nFamiliarity with a broad range of measurement techniques and instrument technologies.\nKnowledge of system controls and basic programming skills.\nUnderstanding of ceramic materials and their thermo-mechanical behavior.\nProject management skills, with the ability to manage all aspects of a testing project independently.\n\nPhysical Requirements:\n\nAbility to work in laboratory, mobile lab, and in-field testing environments.\nAbility to work safely around testing equipment and instrumentation under a variety of operating conditions.\n\nIdeal Candidate:\n\nThe ideal candidate combines engineering rigor with strong hands-on capability.
