Design Lead

Major League Baseball is looking for a Design Lead to oversee the development and execution of applied brand design across MLB’s key visual identity systems. This role will serve as a Design Lead for brand development, working closely with the Brand Strategy and Event Leads to ensure clarity, consistency, and cohesion across all MLB design outputs.ResponsibilitiesOverseeing how brand guidelines and style guides are translated across real-world applicationsManaging high-level projects with a focus on consistency, quality, and clarityPartnering with the Brand Strategy Lead to help evolve and expand brand toolkitsProviding design direction and quality control across production-ready assetsSupport the expansion and consistency of MLB branding by liaising with key partners — including Broadcast, Consumer Products, and other internal and external stakeholders using official league marks.Foster cross-functional collaboration to ensure our brand lives across platforms with integrity and impact. This includes:Working closely with fellow Design Leads across Brand Strategy and Events to deliver unified solutionsMentoring and managing Senior Designers and freelancersCollaborating with Digital, Social, International, and Partnership teams on asset development and rolloutBuilding our brands with a focus on brand guidelines and usabilitySupporting design implementation for major sponsorships, media campaigns, and partner activationsDrive brand development across physical and digital channels. This includes:Executing brand touchpoints from large-scale activations to digital graphics and signageRefining in-market and event materials to ensure they reflect brand intent and league visionCreating clear design systems that scale from campaign concept to venue implementationChampion team-wide collaboration and shared ownership of creative output. This includes:Working closely with project management and production leads to keep timelines and priorities alignedMonitor and guide the application of MLB brand assets across platformsSupporting the growth of team members through feedback, delegation, and design critiqueContributing to Global Design process evolution and upholding a positive, collaborative cultureQualifications & SkillsBachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related fieldMinimum 8 years of experience in branding, graphic design, or visual identity systems, with 2+ years in a leadership roleExperience leading creative teams or mentoring junior talentDeep understanding of how brand systems scale across physical, digital, and experiential platformsStrong portfolio showcasing identity systems, brand development, and campaign executionProficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and presentation software (Google Slides, PowerPoint)Experience working in or adjacent to professional sports, particularly at the league or agency levelStrong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and comfort working in a fast-paced environmentA passion for sports culture and a commitment to collaborative creative leadershipSalary Range: $105,000 - $120,000 (Base Salary) + BonusAs a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.
