Job Description Comptroller Job DescriptionPosition Title:ComptrollerDepartment:Finance / AdministrationReports To:Chief Financial Officer (CFO)Position SummaryThe Comptroller oversees all financial operations, ensuring fiscal integrity, regulatory compliance, and financial planning in the hospital setting.Key Responsibilities• Financial Management & Reporting • Budgeting & Forecasting • Regulatory & Compliance Oversight • Internal Controls & Risk Management • Revenue Cycle Oversight • Payroll & HR Coordination • Leadership & CollaborationQualifications• Bachelors in Accounting/Finance (required) • Healthcare experience preferredKey Performance Indicators• Budget adherence • Accounts receivable days • Cash flow stability • Audit outcomes • Labor cost controlFinancial Management & ReportingOversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payrollPrepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsEnsure accurate and timely financial reporting to leadership and governing bodyMonitor cash flow and maintain financial stabilityBudgeting & ForecastingDevelop annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with department leadersMonitor budget performance and provide variance analysisAssist leadership with financial forecasting and strategic planningRegulatory & Compliance OversightEnsure compliance with:CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services)Joint Commission standardsState regulations (e.g., DMH, DHR)Maintain documentation for audits, surveys, and financial reviewsSupport cost reporting and reimbursement processesInternal Controls & Risk ManagementEstablish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assetsOversee audits (internal and external)Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategiesEnsure proper segregation of dutiesRevenue Cycle OversightCollaborate with billing and admissions to optimize reimbursementMonitor collections, denials, and payer trendsEnsure accurate charge capture and coding coordination (with clinical teams)Payroll & HR Financial CoordinationOversee payroll processes and ensure accuracyCollaborate with HR on compensation structures, benefits, and staffing costsMonitor overtime, agency usage, and labor expensesLeadership & CollaborationServe as a key advisor to executive leadershipPresent financial reports to leadershipWork closely with clinical and administrative departments to align financial goals with patient care needs
