Part Time Parking Enforcement Officer

This role goes beyond traditional enforcement; it is about building positive relationships with the public, promoting fair parking practices, and ensuring our community remains accessible for everyone.The mission of the Allentown Parking Authority is to operate, monitor, and maintain convenient and accessible parking facilities and on-street parking opportunities within the City of Allentown. The Allentown Parking Authority works to balance the parking needs of residents, employees, business and property owners, and visitors while enforcing parking ordinances and providing appropriate access to parking.The Parking Enforcement Officer is an Essential Employee who performs a variety of duties to enforce various parking ordinances. This position has a responsibility to the community to treat everyone with respect and fairness with customer service being the number one priority. The Parking Enforcement Officer reports directly to the Manager/Supervisor of Enforcement.Essential FunctionsCommunity Engagement:Act as an ambassador for the Parking Authority by providing courteous and helpful interactions with residents, visitors, and business ownersEducate the public on parking regulations, helping them to understand the reasons behind the rules and the benefits to the communityRespond to public inquiries and concerns with professionalism and empathy, offering guidance and solutions where possibleParking EnforcementMonitor designated areas to enforce parking regulations, ensuring fair use of parking spaces and compliance with local lawsIssue citations for parking violations when necessary, explaining the reasoning to drivers and offering information on how to resolve the citationWork closely with local businesses, schools, and other community organizations to address specific parking concerns and needsMust be able to work under limited supervision, be responsible, self-motivated, and self-disciplinedMust be able to observe established rules and regulationsMust be able to learn the geography of Allentown and be able to give accurate directions to citizens and visitorsSafety And AccessibilityReport any hazards or issues in parking areas, such as broken meters or obstructed spaces, to a supervisor for resolutionData And ReportingMaintain accurate records of citations, warnings, and interactions with the public.Conflict ResolutionHandle disputes and challenging situations with tact and diplomacy, aiming to de-escalate tensionsRequirementsAll other duties as assignedQualificationsHigh School diploma or GEDMust possess and maintain a valid driver’s license Must be able to ride a bicycle and pass a bicycle certification courseMust be able to walk 4 to 8 miles a day, sometimes over uneven terrain, bend and stoop multiple times a day, and lift up to 35 poundsMust be able to operate a motor vehicle in all weather conditions Prior experience in customer service, community relations, or law enforcement is preferredEmployee is an Essential Employee and is required to report to work and work outside in all weather conditionsSkillsStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to remain calm in stressful situationsProficient in using technology, such as handheld devices for issuing citationsProficient in Microsoft WordPersonal AttributesA positive attitude with a focus on community well-beingEmpathy and patience in dealing with diverse populationsA commitment to fairness and integrity in all actionsWHY JOIN USCommunity Impact: Play a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment in our citySupportive Team Environment: Work with a team that values your input and supports your professional growthOngoing Training: Receive continuous training to enhance your skills in customer service, conflict resolution, parking management, and more!If you are a people-oriented individual who values community engagement and enjoys working in a dynamic environment, we encourage you to apply for this position.
