Employment Type:Full-time (40 hours per week)Base Hourly:$20.76Class/Calendar:B22, 12 monthsBenefits:Vacation, sick leave, holidays, retirement matched through the Arizona State Retirement System, health, and life insurancePerformance Pay:Available annuallyNew Hire Experience:1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximumNew Hire Education:1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the positionJob Summary:To perform specialized mechanical work throughout the district; identify, repair, and/or replace components and systems; assist in the facilitation of the district Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program; assist with asbestos abatement under AHERA protocols; assist in training on procedures and proper use of equipmentPrior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Maintenance. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.Key Responsibilities:Perform specialized mechanical work throughout the district to assist skilled tradesmanPerform routine preventive maintenance, cleaning and repair of district sitesService a variety of components, machinery and related equipmentPerform asbestos removal, as needed, per maintenance supervisor according to AHERA protocol and federal guidelinesRespond to pest intrusion issues and determine course of action according to established guidelinesMaintain grease traps; install and maintain time clocks and pumps for kitchen grease trapsRepair, design, or replace restroom partitions district wideAssist in the training of assigned personnel on procedures and proper use of equipmentEnsure adequate availability and supply of materials to complete assignments in a safe and timely mannerRegular and on-time attendance requiredPerform other related duties, as assigned, to support the efficient and effective functioning of the work unitKeep service vehicle clean, orderly, and properly stocked with parts and suppliesProcess work orders and related paperwork accurately and in a timely mannerAssist in keeping shop cleanAssist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activitiesAssists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools Required Qualifications:High School education or equivalentValid Arizona driver’s licenseMust obtain AHERA Asbestos Worker certification during probationary periodThree years’ experience in the maintenance related field Skills & Competencies:Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a GraduateDemonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and communityWorking knowledge of a variety of trades, tools, applications, techniques, procedures, methods and safe working practicesAbility to coordinate workload using established priorities; to work alone and unsupervisedAbility to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and to establish and to maintain effective and cooperative working relationshipsAbility to work overtime and to change schedules with minimal notice; willingness to work non-regular hours (weekends, night shift, swing shift, holidays) Work Environment & Physical Requirements:Primarily on school grounds (indoors and outdoors)Usually full-time during regular school hours; may require evening or weekend shifts for special events or emergency repairsCan involve climbing ladders, working on rooftops, or in tight or elevated spaces.
