Director of Parks and Recreation
This position is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, and management of Paulding County’s parks, facilities, and recreational programs. The role blends strategic planning, public service, facility oversight, and community engagement. This role provides leadership to library managers and staff; which ensures high-quality public library services across branches. Responsible for directing older adult programs and services that encompass wellness, social activities, meals, transportation, and essential support services. Drives the development of community-aligned, long-term plans for parks, libraries, and senior services while overseeing all departmental policies and procedures. Prepares and manages budgets for all divisions; pursues grant opportunities, sponsorships, and partnerships. Communicates and coordinates activities with the Board of Commissioners, other elected officials, municipal governments, state agencies, civic groups, business leaders, and others. Responds to citizen complaints and concerns.Provides support to the BOC: prepares correspondence; assists in preparing agendas, supporting documentation, presentation materials; attends Commission meetings; proactively responds to inquiries; provides information and makes recommendations on status of county operations and projects; implements decisions of the Commission. Knowledge required: Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods used in parks and recreation administration, the management of programs and activities, and the acquisition and maintenance of facilities. Required skills: problem analysis/solution development and implementation; planning, organizing, coordinating the work of personnel; computer applications; interpersonal and public relations; oral and written communications.Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Library services have been added to the Department. Director now oversees all four libraries and associated employees.
