This position will develop, sustain, and improve manufacturing processes for various components produced from at least one of our segments of unique materials.\nPrimary Duties & Responsibilities\nApply engineering principals to sustain and improve current manufacturing processes, in addition to developing new methods and new products aligned with the growth strategy of Company\nEvaluate new methods and equipment to enhance output of product without hindering quality\nHandle various responsibilities including hands-on materials processing, planning and conducting experiments, and communicating results both verbally and in writing\nStudy and improve performance of materials processing equipment, including power processing machines, preforming molds and equipment, kilns and furnaces, and inspection tools\nUsing Lean/Kaizen methods, monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of manufacturing processes through observations and measurements as well as by collecting and interpreting data from databases, hard copies and other technical and manufacturing personnel\nConfer with management, engineering, manufacturing and other staff regarding production capabilities and schedules\nMonitor manufacturing areas to proactively assess product quality and ensure compliance to ISO guidelines and procedures\nMonitor, optimize and streamline manufacturing processes including production flow, manpower requirements, assembly methods and production equipment\nDesign, develop and test and/or source and cost-justify various tooling, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods\nConfer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of machinery and equipment according to specifications and quality standards\nOversee upgrades and modifications to existing equipment that will increase productivity\nEducation & Experience\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering required, preferably in Materials Science, Ceramic or Chemical Engineering\nMinimum 2 years of experience process engineering in similar industry\nExperience using materials processing equipment such as furnaces, ovens, programmable controllers, metallographic equipment, materials characterization tools, etc.\nExperience with inspection equipment, including CMM, hand tools, visual tools, etc.\nExperience with networked PC based computer system (MS Office, spreadsheets, data bases, graphics, Email, MRP systems, etc.)\nExperience with problem solving and resolution (8D, fishbone, etc.); experience in Lean/Kaizen or Six Sigma preferred\nSkills\nExperience using materials processing equipment such as furnaces, ovens, programmable controllers, powder mixing, foundry tools, etc.\nExperience with materials characterization tools and methods for microscopy, chemistry, structural properties, thermal properties, etc.\nExperience with inspection equipment, including CMM, hand tools, visual tools, etc.\nWorking knowledge of design, inspection and process control software (CAD, CMM, PLC)\nWorking knowledge of data analysis tools (SPC, MiniTab and DoE)\nExperience with problem solving and resolution (8D, fishbone, etc.)\nDemonstrated ability to achieve results independently or working with others\nHands on and very direct approach to problem solving\nExcellent interpersonal and communication skills\nExperience with networked PC based computer system (MS Office, spreadsheets, data bases, graphics, Email, MRP systems, etc.)\nWorking Conditions\nOffice and Shopfloor\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to occasionally lift/push/pull up to 20 lbs.\nAble to sit, stand, bend, squat and walk about the facility.\nWalk of uneven and slippery surfaces\nSafety Requirements\nAll employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp.
