Superintendent ISummary Mortenson is currently seeking a Superintendent I (Building Site/Civil) that will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and supervising assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities in a particular area of discipline, while developing and enhancing customer relationships through excellent service.ResponsibilitiesSite & Civil Construction LeadershipPlan, coordinate, and oversee mass grading, excavation, backfill, and erosion control activities to support accelerated site readiness milestonesLead installation of underground utilities including storm, sanitary, water, ductbank, and associated structuresCoordinate building foundations, slabs-on-grade, and exterior concrete in alignment with vertical construction sequencingManage site access, haul routes, laydown areas, and logistics plans across a multi-building campus environmentPartner with building superintendents to ensure smooth handoff from civil/site scopes to vertical constructionPlanning, Scheduling & CoordinationDevelop and manage short-interval plans, including three- and six-week look-ahead schedules for civil scopesEnsure materials, equipment, and inspections are planned and available to meet schedule commitmentsReview civil drawings, specifications, and contracts for constructability and completenessCoordinate with design engineers, survey, and project engineering to resolve discrepancies and field conditionsLead daily huddles, weekly coordination meetings, and site planning sessions for civil operationsSupervision & Team DevelopmentSupervise project partners, craft foremen, and crews performing civil and site workInterview, hire, transfer, and dismiss craft team members as required by project needsCoach and mentor assistant superintendents and craft team members, supporting skill development and career progressionTrack labor hours, productivity, and progress through proper task coding and field reportingSafety, Quality & Risk ManagementProvide visible leadership and accountability for safety, quality, environmental, and compliance standardsIdentify and mitigate site risks related to soil conditions, utilities, weather, and sequencingProactively address unfavorable working conditions and drive continuous improvement in site operationsCollaboration & CultureBuild strong working relationships with internal teams, trade partners, inspectors, and clientsLead by example, promoting inclusive behaviors, open communication, and continuous feedbackEffectively work with team members across diverse backgrounds, disciplines, and organizational levelsQualificationsAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or 10 years of relevant trade experienceMinimum 5 years of construction management experience, with emphasis on site/civil or heavy civil workExperience with earthwork, underground utilities, concrete foundations, and site logistics preferredCurrent driver’s licenseAbility to manage multiple, complex work areas within a fast-paced project environmentDetail-oriented with strong organizational and planning skillsBasic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practicesIntermediate proficiency in Microsoft OfficeStrong communication, active listening, and customer service skillsAbility to interpret and apply Mortenson policies and proceduresWillingness and ability to travel up to 100%Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, inclusive behaviors, and Affirmative Action plans A few benefits offered include: (for Non-Craft & Non-Union Craft working 25+ hours / week)Medical and prescription drug plans that includes no additional cost vision coverage  Dental plan  401k retirement plan with a generous Mortenson match Paid time off, holidays, and other paid leaves  Employer paid Life, AD&D, and disability insurance  No-Cost mental health tool and concierge with extensive work-life resources Tuition reimbursement  Adoption Assistance   Gym Membership Discount Program   The base pay range for this role is $114,000 - $167,100. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
