The Enterprise Architect – Institutional Client Services (ICS) at M&T Bank is a senior-level architecture role responsible for defining enterprise-wide technology strategy, architecture roadmaps, and solution design across institutional banking and client services domains. This role partners directly with executive leadership to drive modernization, cloud adoption, system integration, and regulatory‐compliant architecture across complex financial ecosystems.Location: Buffalo, New York (Preferred) / Remote (Travel to Buffalo, NY every 4–6 weeks, Monday–Thursday in office)Duration: 6 monthsKey Responsibilities:Define and maintain enterprise architecture strategy, standards, and roadmaps aligned to business and regulatory prioritiesDesign scalable, secure, and resilient end-to-end solution architectures for institutional client services platformsTranslate business strategy into actionable architecture and engineering guidanceLead architecture governance across major transformation initiatives and programsEnsure compliance with financial regulations, risk frameworks, and data privacy standards (e.g., SOX, GLBA, FFIEC, GDPR)Drive integration strategies across cloud, APIs, microservices, and enterprise data platformsPartner with executive leaders, product owners, engineering, and vendors to ensure alignment and executionProvide architectural oversight throughout the solution delivery lifecycleCore Skills & Qualifications:7+ years in enterprise or solution architecture with strong cloud experience (Azure hybrid preferred)Experience in financial services, ideally institutional banking (capital markets, investment management, structured finance, M&A)Strong expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, or equivalent)Deep knowledge of cloud architecture, APIs, microservices, data platforms, and integration patternsStrong understanding of cybersecurity, data governance, and regulatory compliance requirementsProven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and executive leadershipExperience with architecture modeling, documentation, and enterprise design toolsStrong communication skills with ability to translate complex technical concepts for business audiencesPreferred Experience:Experience driving modernization or digital transformation programs in financial servicesBackground in agile, DevOps, and product‐centric delivery environmentsFamiliarity with enterprise governance, portfolio management, and IT strategy executionExperience evaluating and integrating third‐party/vendor solutionsDeliverables:Enterprise architecture roadmaps (current and future state)High‐level and detailed solution architecture documentationArchitecture standards, principles, and reusable design patternsTechnology assessments and vendor recommendation reportsGap analyses and impact assessmentsExecutive‐level presentations and briefingsExcellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.The expected base salary for this position ranges from $70.46 to $117.43. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
