School Marshal (26-27 School Year Campus TBD)
Primary PurposeUnder general supervision, patrols district property to protect all students, personnel, and visitors fromphysical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism.Education/Certification Qualifications:High school diploma or GEDClear and valid Texas driver licenseValid Texas License to Carry HandgunSpecial Knowledge/SkillsAbility to clearly and accurately record informationAbility to follow verbal and written instructionsAbility to work effectively with youths and adultsAbility to communicate effectively (verbally)ExperienceBackground in law enforcement or related work experienceMajor Responsibilities And DutiesStudent ManagementPatrol assigned campus and be visible throughout the day, especially during passing periods and in the cafeteria during lunch.Build relationships with students while monitoring student behavior and enforcing school rules related to student conduct, student I.D. badges, vehicle operation and parking.Resolve conflict or confrontation between students, report disturbances to principal or assistant principal and be available for counseling students and contacting parents, if needed.Be available to speak to classes about safety, security and law enforcement related topics.Be the liaison between assigned campus and local law enforcement.Security and ParkingAssist with drop-off and pickup, control traffic and parking on campus grounds during school hours and work with office personnel to inform drivers of problems with vehicles (i.e., improperly parked, lights on etc.).Notify police, fire department or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate attention.Perimeter check of campus and out buildings, check all external entrance/exit doors for proper operation, check classroom doors (locked w/magnetic strip in place).Training and ProceduresAssist with safety drills (Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter and Hold).Work cooperatively with police agencies to share information and provide other assistance.Operate all equipment including firearms according to established safety procedures.Maintain all training pertaining to your appointment as a P.I.S.D. School Marshal (including recertification and firearms proficiency).Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsTools/Equipment Used: District vehicle, firearms, handcuffs, security equipment, two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.Posture: Prolonged sitting and standingMotion: Strenuous walking and climbing stairs; occasional keyboarding and use of mouse, moderate drivingLifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds)Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather); moderate exposure to noise and vehicle exhaust; frequent districtwide travel.Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneouslyMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours
