Join the Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD) as a Call Center Representative in our Telephone Relay Service (TRS) Call Centers. The role is full-time or part-time, remote from Texas, and offers a starting wage of $14.00 per hour.
About the Role
A Communication Assistant relays telephone calls between deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech-impaired consumers (including TTY users) and hearing consumers through the telephone network. You will facilitate conversation, ensure accurate transmission, and maintain the caller's control of the call.
Key Responsibilities
Relay telephone calls between Deaf/hard-of-hearing and hearing callers.
Use specific strategies to facilitate communication without interfering the caller's control over the call.
Read text aloud from a computer and transcribe spoken word to text.
Maintain accurate records and verify information as requested.
Adapt to fast-paced environments and fluctuating call volumes.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Age 18 or older.
Typing speed of 45–60 words per minute with minimal errors.
Excellent customer service experience with a calm demeanor.
Availability for various schedules, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Ability to pass skill assessments administered by a local recruiter and hearing acuity (tested by an audiologist).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent communication and listening skills.
Proficient in understanding conversations with speech disabilities.
Clear, articulate speaking with proper tone and volume.
Strong grammar and spelling.
Ability to learn and use complex computer communication software.
Adaptability to call-volume fluctuations.
Work-From-Home Requirements
Private, quiet office space with a closed door.
Hard-wired ethernet internet connection (3.0 MG download; 1.2 MG upload).
High-speed internet connection.
